Ryzen 7 OC 3.8GHZ

Jon Jon

I am poking around to see what's the best price/performance for cooling a Ryzen 7 to 3.8ghz.

I don't plan to push further than that, and I imagine I can save some money, pick up a 1700, and get it to 3.8ghz stable no problem on an X370 board.

My question is, will the wraith spire do this quietly, or should I look into a better air cooler?

I am very familiar with the 212 EVO, but from what I see, the Wraith is just as good.

Let me know.

Thanks!

Yea the r7 stock coolers are pretty good, so just stay with that, and then if noise/temps become a problem, you can always order another cooler.

If you aim at 1.2V 3.6Ghz even at load the temps should be around the 70's but if you do start to push voltage above 1.25V 1700 will start to heat-up a bit and generally it takes at least 1.25V to get to 3.8 most of the time a bit more with some needing even 1.375V for that if you lose the silicon lottery.

Wraith is quiet that is the good news even at 100% its still pretty darn quiet but i recommend getting a 30$-40$ air cooler at least

I started poking at the Be Quiet Dark Pro 3.

What are your thoughts on that cooler?

At that price i'd recommend the Noctua NH-D15  but the looks of a be quiet is clearly better keep in mind neither comes with a AM4 bracket

To be honest you might get away with spending less if you are ok with higher load temps i'm pretty sure a CRYORIG H7 will get the job done

Stock cooler will do just fine, a bit loud when ramping up.
I went with liquid cooling since i wanted to push beyond that.

I am tempted to just get another for sure.

However, After seeing horror stories with some, I am concerned with making this investment and then destroying it with a bad AIO :(

I took the risk on my current build, since it is 5+ years old, so no harm no fowl, but still IDK

I went for the Cooler Master Liquid Master 240, solid tubing with sleeving something you need to look for.
The tubbing and the mounting on the rad and head combined with sleeving and materials is what makes or break a solid AIO.

AIO for looks and sometimes clearance reasons is the only reason why i would use one, after switching.

I'd rather get a beast air cooler it will perform on par with a 280 rad while not having to worry about leakage in the future, with that said i own a Kraken X61 and i enjoy it i don't care for the fans that come with it however.

Loud at anything higher then 40% which is nuts since typically noutua fan will push more air while being quieter.

I think I will get the Be Quiet then....since I plan to get a Be Quiet Silent Base 800...so it will match the inside :)
