34 vs 29inch Ultrawide?

slanensis

Hello there! I am looking for an ultrawide monitor since February, and I have been collecting money since.

I am in a dilemma. Should I go for the 34UM58, that will take up 1 of my 2 HDMI slots on my GPUs (I have an r9 380 and a gt 710) and have no freesync, or go for a really good 29inch ultrawide?

I cannot buy any other 34inch monitor, since there is a 100 euro difference from the 34UM58 to the next cheapest model.

I will be using this for Gaming and Working, and (if I buy this) I have a 24' 16:9 1080p screen and a 21' 16:9 monitor for secondaries, and cince my brother is leaving on September, I will be left with another 3 monitors(with which we were thinking with my father to make my room full of monitors, with all the monitors being VESA mounted in front of my bed, and some other places I have planned).

1080p only looks good up to 25" imo.

Don't go for a 34 inch unless it's 1440p.

Greetings mate, I'm an ultrawide enthusiastic myself, I have had plenty of these monitos and I believe I can advise you fairly:

25 inches is a no-go whatever you do, the screen size is too small for the resolution and it looks awful.

29 inches is the 2560x1080p resolution sweetest spot, pixel density is perfect, it looks awesome and often is a great deal to have some of both worlds (resolution vs refresh rate) the best cost benefice product in this lines is the LG 29UM68-P and its variants, 2560x1080p running at smooth 80hz and should you have an AMD card you can benefit from FreeSync, even though out of experience Fast Sync on 80hz is very smooth as well.

34inches is the 3440x1440p resolution sweetest spot, just as its little brother this is where pixel density is at its finest, the most luxury for certain, however you might find 34 inches monitors featuring the 2560x1080p resolution - DO NOT buy those as they have terrible pixelation, remember our issue before with 25 inches being just too damn small to make sense? well now it is the opposite it is too damn big of a screen size.

I hope this clarifies to you enough, if you have lots of money and wish the best 34 inches 3440x1440p it is, if you're on a budget but still want a very good ultrawide experience 29 inches 2560x1080p it is.

Avoid 34 inches 2560x1080p and 25 inches monitors at all cost as they are extremely terrible in comparison.

Cheers!

I will mostly work on the ultrawide, since I need the extra real estate for my work and not the good resolution, and my GPU cannot support 1440p resolution for gaming. When I will want to game demanding games, I will switch to the 1080p 16:9 24". I just need the real estate.

In general, I only need the real estate, since I will not game on it. I used a 34ich 1080p for a bit and I loved it. I don't have the horsepower to game. In my spare time, I will only use it for my various projects, and watching a YouTube video, and that satisfies me, and I only game with my friends online.
