Monitor gets disconnected randomly

Hey there!

For like a week or two I am facing an issue.

During use, most of the time when first launching a game (in windowed mode, sometimes Hearthstone, sometimes PUBG or Rocket League) my screen #1 gets disconnected, both screens turn black and then only screen #2 comes back on.

I can only fix this by turning off my screen #1 and turning it back on.

I cannot figure out where this is coming from.

My setup:

i7 4790K

Zotac 1070 AMP! Extreme

16GB RAM

Screen #1: Asus MG279Q (I know, FreeSync Monitor on a 1070, but I had a 290X before which died)

-> connected via DP

Screen #2: BenQ el cheapo 24" Panel

-> connected via HDMI

Has anyone an idea on where to start troubleshooting?

Things I already did:

- reinstall GPU driver

- reseat all the cables

Thanks in advance!

Change the cables. Specially the DP cables tend to hit and miss for some reason.

What u describe is something we had with a few monitors, getting newer better cables fixed the issue for us at least.

I will try that, thanks!

Only thing that seems odd is that the issue started appearing after like 2 years of use with the included DP cable.

Any cables you can recommend?

Just now, Dujith said:

I think we ended up with Startech cables. Just make sure its the 1.2 version, that should guarantee the quality.

Gonna  try those, thanks!

I had a similar issue with a U2515H once and Dell told me they knew and there was no other fix than switching the monitor completely.

I know you have different monitors and this is not suuuper helpful, but I just wanted to share that I went through 4 or 5 cables and tried different computers and the issues prevailed.

I was thinking to contact Asus about the issue but I cannot find out how long their warranty on this monitor is. It is like 2 years and 1 month old.
