HTPC awesome sound

I want to build an HTPC and the surround sound is really important for me.

So i looking for a sound card 7.1, over my integrate sound in the motherboard. (Asus Z170m-Plus)

Do you have other good suggestion? 

The optical audio output is a must.

A sound card is not necessary to get great audio. I have a BOSE 5.1 surround system in my basement and I get superb audio running my old laptop with HDMI. The latest Windows 10 update supports up to 7.1 surround. I would suggest running HDMI from the pc into your receiver instead of running the audio from a sound card. However if you still want a sound card, I suggest any card from Creative that fits your budget.

I do not have any experience with Omega sound cards, but I do have a Creative in my 6 year old desktop and it sounds great.

but why this creative 5.1 over the omega 7.1 ?

It depends on how many channels your theater has. The omega should be a fine card.

If you don't need Dolby Digital Live or DTS Connect, then the Asus SPDIF Out Bracket. That gives your onboard audio an optical output. 

 

If you need either, then there are options from Asus, Creative, etc. Honestly they're starting to go away as Windows 10 Creators Update hates them.

Save your money spend it on the receiver unless you putting out analog audio a sound card wont benefit much.
