Is this AMD’s Pentium equivalent?

AMD has been a lot of the talk on the internet lately, ryzen was a huge comeback from bulldozer (a.k.a, faildozer) and piledriver, ryzen 7 for the high end, ryzen 5 for the mainstream, ryzen 3 for the budget, threadripper for the enthusiasts, but what about the extreme budget, who they have been catering to for the past few years, what about the a series and athalon chips, well they are coming back this September,  but are they truly worth the wait, or just buy a Pentium for the same price.

You can't go much cheaper than a $110 RYZEN 3 though .. While being new and it having any price / performance

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

The A series and the K7 series on AM4 have been known for a long time now.  It's just that it's been OEM only distribution until recently (and there was already a thread about it a while back).  My Gigabyte AX370-Gaming K7 board has a comment about these processors compatibility in the manual.

Technically correct because both intel and AMD processors are still technically IBM 80886 equivalents....they just happen to be millions of times faster than the original chip but still technically iterations of the original 80886

All I know is that I want a laptop with one of those sweet APU. Even if its at 2.2GHz. Because then I could compare it to my old laptop with its Phenom II N970 (2.2GHz) and Lemon with its A8 4555M (1.8GHz both modules under Windows, 2GHz both modules under Ubuntu 16.04, 1.6GHz base and 2.4GHz single module turbo) and see if AMD is a legitimate option in the mobile space.

If you must have something now you can still get old Athlon IIs, they aren't bad for the price compared to the pentiums. Plus you can overclock them a bit.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨
