Upgrade for $250

I need to upgrade this computer https://pcpartpicker.com/user/xP0WERH0USEx/saved/4bvLkL for gaming and video editing

Obviously the GPU is the glaring hole but I'm curious what GPU to get and whether I should invest in a second stick of RAM or a better cooler so I can OC (running at 3.5 ghz with msi gameboost right now)

Any recommendations?

1050 ti or 1060 will do you best for your money. Highly suggest 6gb 1060 not 3gb model.

1060 6g or 1050ti. 3g 1060 is just completly not worth it. If  you cant find a 1060 6g with your money save like 20 bucks.

Stick with the stock cooler for now, it's fine. Overclock your CPU as much as you can with the stock cooler and you can upgrade that later if you want. I'd try to grab a 6GB GTX 1060, you can get one for $270-290. Or even a used GTX 970/980, you should be able to find a 970 for $150-180 or a 980 for $200-220. Then add another 8GB RAM when you can. After that you can consider upgrading CPU cooler.

what are you editing with? or more precisely what are you rendering with. if it's GPU accelerated then a better GPU won't make a huge difference to your times (they're just all a million times faster than CPU and afterwards you're fighting for peanuts) it only matters if you're a big professional company. but then for gaming.

I think you should always take advantage of dual channel with RAM. and I don't think the R3 is a good choice for games. at least get a 1500x imo. for the GPU, i've been running a 950 for 2 years now and i'm happy in my games at 1080p. nothing's maxed out (except old stuff or league/CS:GO) but i'm not a supremacist when it comes to graphics settings. they end up taking lots of performance for little visual improvement when you're past high. So you'll be able to play with it. obviously a better one will give you more FPS. but seeing the build the real question is what can your wallet handle?

RAM is cheapest upgrade. it's ryzen so faster speed matters but if you're only adding it will be better to get the same (try overclocking it)

Then CPU and GPU kinda in the same ballpark depending if it's 1500x or 1600 and if it's 1050Ti or 1060 6GB. 130-300$ range

with your 250 you might be able to do ram and either CPU or GPU. try and find which is slowing you down the most. while you're really using it check taskmanager and a GPU utility to see utilization. upgrade the one at 100%.

Primary System

  • CPU
    Ryzen R6 5700X
  • Motherboard
    MSI B350M mortar arctic
  • RAM
    32GB Corsair RGB 3600MT/s CAS18
  • GPU
    Zotac RTX 3070 OC
  • Case
    kind of a mess
  • Storage
    WD black NVMe SSD 500GB & 1TB samsung Sata ssd & x 1TB WD blue & x 3TB Seagate
  • PSU
    corsair RM750X white
  • Display(s)
    1440p 21:9 100Hz

LMAO I already have this build so I cant go back and change the CPU. I'm a high schooler working a minimum wage job so I'm getting my parts as I go. (GPU is last remaining part from my old build.

Thanks for the help. I think I probably will just get the 6 GB 1060.
