GTX 970 paired with 2nd gen i5

SammyGoad

With the current climate for ddr4 being as bad as it is, I dont want to blow my $250 worth of upgrade money on new cpu upgrade to only see a 5-10 fps increase. I'd like to upgrade to a 970 from a 1050ti for a apparently 37% increase in performance. How bad of a mispairing is a 2011 mid range i5 with a high grade 2015 gpu is this?

Windows[I5 2500 3.3Ghz-3.7Ghz 4 cores 4 threads][12gbs of Samsung DDR3 1600 Mhz Ram][MSI GTX 1050 TI 4GB OC]

Apple[IPhone SE] [Imac 21.5 dual core 3 Gghz][Time Capsule 3TB]

Linux[Several laptops]

Why don't you upgrade to a 1060?

a 970i will work fine with an i5 from any year to be honest. I wouldn't call it a high grade gpu though :P

Yup, 1060 or a 980 would be a good choice. I run an i5 2400 and 980 Ti.

970 from 1050 ti isnt worth it, you are getting more performance at a worse power efficiency, save up your money till the mining craze is over and get a more powerful card then.

So we can start a weak-sauce CPU vs GPU setup club? For everyone with a massive powerful CPU and comparatively bleh CPU?

not really, Witcher 3, Titanfall  2, Rainbow 6 never bottleneck. Battlefield 1 is the only game that will constantly push 100% cpu usage and not use more than 60% gpu without using DSR

My games don't bottleneck at all.... Battlefront II and KOTOR stay pinned at the max frame rate... And we know  (sarcasm increasing) that they're very demanding games....
