Is it worth buying a 1080p in 2017

So i had a 1440p 165hz monitor until it died on me a few days ago ;(  R.I.P. So now i need to buy a new monitor. I don't do much content creation and i mostly game.

I have a gtx1080 and a i7 6700k. I just recently saw that asus has released their 240hz 1080p monitor. I love the way it looks and the fact that it runs at 240hz, but the thing is that i need a monitor that will last me at least 2 to 3 years and the fact that it has a 1080p display is really deterring me from buying it. Do you think that 1080p will still be a standard after 1 or 2 years ?

I personally can't go back to choosing 1080p for personal use, the resolution is just too small for me. To answer your question though, yes it will likely remain dominant for at least the next 5 years.

its not much of a price leap to 1440p tbh... but you can get higher fps displays in 1080p so... preferences tbh
