I am going to go out on a limb and say some non techie is going to confuse i5 2500u with R5 2500u and say i5 8500u is better coz bigger no/newer processor.. Also be careful of ultra savvy rswaps and eBay sellers

Intel

Desktop mainstream :leads

Hedt:lags by one year (for 6+cores)

Laptop high end :leads mainstream by 3 months

Laptop mid end :confused

Low power :more confusion... I mean what the fuck is Apollo Lake

Amd:

Desktop mainstream :leads

Hedt:leads

Laptop:either skips a generation and loads of lags by an year

Ultra low power :WTF??

There is no i5 2500U though.....

Possible. Though Intel's Mobile space is going to be a disaster for any consumer to sort out for the next ~8 months. They're going to have Cannonlake, Gemini Lake, Coffee Lake and I think some Kaby Lake parts still.

people gonna drown in lakes

Let's agree to disagree

Is AMD mocking Intel with all their marketing brands?

2500U - Intel U lineup

X399 - X299

x370 - z270

B350 - B250

Ryzen 3, Ryzen 5, Ryzen 7 - i3, i5, i7

I'm not the only one noticing this, right?

You aren't the first. And it's intentional. Intel has set the market with naming schemes, so AMD is just following along.

Considering the many years of illegal actions Intel has taken against AMD, throwing some shade by using their naming schemes is a small thing.

In regards to the U series, AMD is fine for the 2000's. Although when it comes to the hundreds and anything 3000+ AMD would be starting to become confusing.

This particular Ryzen 2500U (the "U" designator is believed to be for mobile parts) chip is notable because it is claimed to feature integrated Radeon Vega graphics. The image listing the specs claims the GPU is an AMD 1500 unit and the APU itself rocks quad-cores and the ability to handle eight threads.

If AMD can produce a low power consumption CPU with a 50% performance increase and implemented with AMD vega graphics into an APU based mobile processor which is priced reasonable enough, I think AMD will have major sales boosts. Considering that AMD has just announced vega, I think that it will take AMD some time to develop vega into an APU type mobile processor.

I think that if AMD does go ahead with these mobile processors, coffee lake could be AMD's greatest fear.

As much as I like their current product stack and projects, AMD should really stop copying Intel's naming schemes

The "U" naming scheme is an indication to identify that its a mobile processor.

Again, as I've explained, that's an indicationon Intel processors. They could just have gone with another letter.

I suppose that AMD could have opted for something like "Z" to describe the zen architecture.

Looks like ps5 will be vegapowered, fuckye, finewine incoming

Its not like jaguar and puma run gcn+bulldozer and in no way that is the reason for amd to be able to bring so much more out of their hardware, considering ludacrious budget for the driver team
