Problems with new Android TV?

So my dad came home with this streaming box, but when I turned it on and set it up, it ran some weird version of Android. I set it up and it didn't let me run 1080p@60Hz, so I ran it at 24hz, since most TV shows are like that. I tried it on netflix, and it looks like it's running at 720p. Youtube doesn't look bad but it stutters every so often and it's really annoying. Any idea what this was? I feel like my dad should've just got a roku or something but I'm not sure.

Is it a Kodi box? If its one of the cheap ones, then it could be shit hardware. Plus Kodi doesnt run good a lower end hardware, at least no on my moms 1st Gen Amazon fire stick. 

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

aliexpress is full of chinese crap android boxes. this sounds like on of them. throw it in the bin and get a chromecast.

Yea it says "made in china" and he got it from one of those shady shops where they sell cheap things... ;c
