Moto Z2 Force also has “Jelly Scrolling”, Inverted Refresh Direction

"Just over a month ago, the OnePlus 5 burst onto the scene with a storm of controversy. From the unexpected quality of the cameras, to the benchmark enhancing passing straight through the infamous and uncommon “jelly scrolling” issue, supposedly caused by the device’s screen being mounted upside down. If our Moto Z2 Force unit is any indication, though, it looks like the OnePlus 5 is not alone this year."

why?

"It is difficult to imagine that both OnePlus and Lenovo engineers have missed an issue that is so easily viewable to end users, so it’s almost certain it was conscious decision executed to better arrange the phone’s internals. It is not clear if all of last generation of Motorola phones have this issue as well, though teardowns show both Z Force models have their display IC at the bottom of the phone instead of the top, just like on the OnePlus 5."

teardown video shows the problem

i think this is unacceptable in a device expensive as the moto z2 and moto z2 force, when paying for a premium device, you shouldn't have to make compromises. no headphone jack and jelly scrolling sounds like a combo that's easy to avoid for most consumers.

Oooh. I thought that was an android animation effect when you get to the top/bottom of the menu, but it's because of the screen? I see.

Pretty unfortunate, but I think the new Z line is a complete misstep anyway. Lowering the batteries in all of your devices to spur after sales is a horrible marketing strategy, especially when you've shown that you can have both just a generation before.

Perhaps they're trying to sabotage the model line so that they can come up with something different next year and use "declining sales" as a reason.

Yeah, and yet, it happened.  Makes you wonder, did they actually never test a finished model, even once?  Or are they blind?  Or did they think people wouldn't notice or care?  All of those options seem equally impossible to imagine, but yet, here we are. -_-

  • 6 months later...

I have the Moto z2 force and it has no jelly scrolling, maybe just a bad batch or a technical issue before they upgraded to 8.0 Oreo

I don't think that's true. If it was then my galaxy S7 would behave the same way when I hold it upside down, but it doesn't.

Seems like there is some other issue here.
