AMD Navi to have dedicated Ai

Rumor has been spreading on the web that, AMD's successor to Vega, Navi, will have dedicated circuitry for artificial intelligence (Ai), for machine learning. The next gen card will have a new manufacturing process at 7nm, compared to Vega at 14nm. 

Navi, is expected to debut sometime around 2018.

I think vega is a test of new tech to be used in Navi. Combine that with the scalable nature of ryzen and you have something compelling.

Oh.. Title made me think AMD were making a personal assistant lol. 

 

Still awesome, hope it's true. 7nm is going to be sweet but isn't that like really close to the limits of silicone transistors?

Yep. I think the smallest possible is ~5nm, but they'll be moving away from it after 7nm. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I know for me, it's looking more and more like I may just wait for Navi.  I wanted Vega to be great, but I don't think it would be a significant enough upgrade from my 390 to justify the expense, especially given that I game in 1080p still.

 

Of course, given that I only upgrade every other year at the earliest, maybe I should get Vega now and wait for the second generation of Navi....decisions, decisions.

I'm still playing on a GPU from 4 years ago and it works well enough for the games I play CS/DOTA/EU4. Granted I'm playing on 1080p and 60fps monitor, but the vast majority of the world is still playing on 1080p so I don't think I'm far behind the curve and I don't think all of us who play esports/casual games need these insanely powerful cards.

He was probably joking about my joke. But in all honesty, just go for Vega, the wait for this and wait for that game can go on forever. If your current card isn't doing it for you, just upgrade and don't worry about something that will release in a year.

Seeing as a 660 is as powerful as the RX 460 yah, definitely.  *stares at future 1080/Vega/1080TI for Northern Bee*

It's crazy to me. Just like when a new iPhone comes out. One moth later, and there's already rumors of the next iPhone. At least no one camps outside AMD HQ for 2 weeks to be in line for the first GPU.

I know. But people do that for iPhones at Apple Stores. I don't think they do it for GPUs (are there even "AMD Stores?") though.

Maybe there is one at hq, for suveniors and stuff?

The gpu will be at tsmc in Taiwan!  Time to camp 2 weeks in advance on the tarmac, before boarding the plane.
