GTX 260 on windows 10

Hello.

I have an old core 2 duo PC. I recently put a GTX 260 in it, and am wanting to install drivers for it. However, when I try to, it says that the graphics driver is not compatible with this version of windows. What should I do?

Get a new GPU.

I simply found it in the garage, and can't afford a new GPU. It's either this, or some version of intel GMA

You might have then some piece of software that installed something that causes incompatibility, worst case scenario go to device manager uninstall the video driver then go for a windows update, windows should install a driver for you automatically.

I factory reset my PC before this to increase speed

Looks like nvidia do offer a driver for the 260 and Win10. Just make sure to select the right bit-ness version of Windows. Note the drivers are much over than cutting edge ones, but better than nothing. I even still have 9500GS in one system...

You wouldn't happen to know what version that is? I'm playing games like CS:GO so the driver being slightly older should be fine

Should be latest driver for 260 for Win10-64.

 

Personally I've avoided any GPU driver from MS as they're usually either generic, limited in functionality or out of date. It can be ok if you never leave the desktop, but otherwise I always get the latest from the manufacturer.

There might not be modern drivers available for a GPU that old. You might need to use drivers for Windows 7 or 8.1 instead and hope they're compatible, or use an older version of Windows.

Whoops guys, turns out I was running a 32 bit version of windows and installing 64 bit drivers. Thanks for your help
