How many of you actually buy windows? Be honest please

zindan

How many of you actually pay 60-70$ for windows? or any money at all?
Because this is ridiculus

Poll would be good for this kind of question.

I buy Windows, but not at retail price. I typically spend about £30 on the license. I figure it's worth at least that much for a one time purchase for the software that allows everything else to run. Security updates and support are also nice to have. Considering what you get, £30 isn't much.

EDIT: Compared to professional software, Windows costs nothing. I don't see why people are so opposed to paying for it.

I don't, I get it free from work and then get paid to fix it.  Go figure

I don't. I scrounge old Windows keys of my dad's broken laptops or PCs I get given (They actually work too). Or I just run it without a license, all it does is disable changing the colors and give you a watermark.

I expect many people will "buy it" because they buy laptops or pre-builts that come with it pre-installed, although they can't tell how much of the price is due to hardware and how much is due to software.

My dad had activated Win10 on that laptop before, but downgraded because it sucked. It's broken now, since he was in a head on (only cracked ribs and a sprained ankle, praise the Lord! The other guy broke the bone around his eye and was flown out in a helicopter though. I think he's okay now.) and the laptop hit him in the ribs. It's kind of bent. Still booted last time I tested it, just the screen doesn't work.

Personally I just installed the student edition that didn't have all the bloatware that usually comes with it. Not activated, and there's just a small watermark. Probably going to activate it when I go to school and get free keys. SInce it's not my main OS, I can live with the watermark.

If activation fails, they will (read: should) give you another key to use.

i've purchased keys off kinguin. no reason not to.

How is your Dad now?

He's fine. I think his shoulder bothers him a teeny bit sometimes. But he's always worked out and was in good shape, so he didn't get hurt as bad as he could have. He was in an F-150 (Platinum edition, RIP nice truck) and the other guy was in a 4-door RAM. My dad is actually thankful he's the guy who got hit. There were some friends just ahead of him in a Ford Focus sedan, and if they'd been hit it would've been a lot worse.

Think my windows license is broken, still using a windows 7 OEM code for all my installs, used it way beyond 10 times now

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

I own 2 Windows 7 Pro licenses and 6 Windows 7 Home licenses, so in my mind I've given Microsoft enough of my money and the number of installs I have isnt really a concern of mine. At this point I don't even bother activating, I do have my was of making it think its activated, mostly because its a 1000x easier than needing to type in that stupid code and has the same result
