Ryzen 3 Review - The new 1080p Budget King (Multiple games tested)

Hey guys just finished bench marking Ryzen 3. As always I will post the full video on my profile, but won't be posted here as I don't want to break forum rules, and because some say love is a river.

Paired with a GTX 1080 to eliminate any GPU Bottlenecks.

Stock settings 3.1ghz - 3.5 boost                   Overclock settings 3.7ghz (was able to get 3.8 @ 1.35v but stealth wraith couldn't keep it cool enough and it crashed)

DDR4 2133                                                    DDR4 2933

Games Tested

DOTA 2

PUBG

WITCHER 3

BF1

GTA V

Here are side by side comparisons, all games were ran at high settings with AA LOW (except for GTA V where it was off) and PUBG which was ran at Medium settings.

Overall overclocking is going to make a huge difference, temps stayed at about 71-73 with the Wraith stealth cooler under load on overclock, and about 50-55 on stock under load.

ty0d3lc.png

All in all guys is a helluva value for those doing any budget build for 1080p, and as long as you pair it with a decent GPU it should be a great value.

I'd like to see how it matches up with a G4560 or upcoming Pentium from Coffee Lake.

@Thinkfreely awesome job man, One question. any chance you tested with Ram not OC but just CPU I know Ryzen benifits hugely from ram speeds but interested to see how it improves with just CPU

Yes I did, but since Ryzen benefits so much from Ram speed I did an overclock of both. However I wrote down numbers and it was affecting as much as 10FPS in most games.

Have you tried @MageTank's guide? I used it to get my 32GB 1600/9 to 1866/9.

Coffelake is going to be faster, it may honestly (depend on price) dethrone Ryzen until zen 2. I actually did a video on the G4560, but this still performs a little better in productivity, but much better in gaming.

Interesting to see the difference clocks and ram speeds make when looking at a CPU bottlenecked system.  Next time put CPU temps and usage in the OSD.

This looks promising. i cant wait for the new APUs to come out. I only really play rocket league, counter strike, and compile mobile software, so I think the low end is a real winner when I decide to upgrade. I likely won't get an Intel because they are not real quadcore and HAXM isnt required for KVM.

Could the OP please benchmark CSGO and rocket league?

yes I will next time. Temps were under load 50-55c on stock 71-73 oc, with stealth wraith cooler.

The reason I didn't is even a G4560 can do 160 FPS in CSGO. Both of those games are not demanding. I did a pairing of the G4560 (Which isn't as powerful as Ryzen 3) with a RX 460 and in those titles I was getting 160 + FPS on high, just so you know.

Correction went back and checked and it was more like 80-100 FPS in most situations, but still :D

the reason im asking is the old bulldozer APUs were not great but the ryzen 3 should give some indication to the performance of the new APUs. 80FPS is not going to justify the expense of upgrading to a high frequency monitor which means i can spend money elsewhere.

Sure that makes sense. Yeah I mean for sure you would be getting 100-160 with a Ryzen 3 and a 1060/580

I overclocked my RAM to 1866mhz from 1600mhz and noticed a fair bump in BF1, if I wasn't running 4x4GB sticks in my system I believe I could get it to around 2000mhz CL9, I tried it but crash on boot with windows, was thinking of putting more volts into the RAM but it's already running 1.69v.

Yeah thats too high as far as volts are concerned for me, plus you gotta figure whats the real benefit of that extra 144mhz for that much extra voltage? Usually start get diminishing returns.

Nah it's fine been running it like this for some time now, the RAM only gets lukewarm. If I put more in then I'd consider it too high. 1.75v would be my max, I want to upgrade anyway :D
