AMD increasing Vega 64 Pricing above official MSRP

tom_w141

Source: https://videocardz.com/71776/amd-is-trying-to-sell-radeon-rx-vega-64-at-a-higher-price

Quote

From Europe to Asia, retailers are told that Vega 64 will be sold at higher price than first advertised. It appears that AMD is trying to sell both blower type cards for the same price, which is 599 USD.

Quote

4 independent sources claiming that there is little to no difference in pricing for black and limited editions of Vega 64.

Quote

This is not the first time the product is offered at a higher price than first advertised. This usually happens for preorders or shortly after launch. However few shops will still offer Vega 64 at official suggested price, just so AMD can say it was sold for 499 USD.

So it appears AMD is telling retailers to sell Vega above the original MSRP and not just that the standard (black) version is being sold at the same cost as the limited edition. The difference is the limited edition has an aluminium shroud, which admittedly looks better but not $100 worth of better... Kind of a dick move in my opinion when their product isn't even that great to begin with. Matching a 1080 at 499 is borderline acceptable. Matching a 1080 and straying toward 1080Ti prices?! WTF... Your opinions?

AMD really has a problem with their production arent they? xD

HBM2 is expensive and scarce

CLARIFICATION: This isn't in defense of AMD's pricing or reasoning. I merely meant this is likely to be a contributing factor and that it was a dumb idea for AMD to use it on a gpu that isn't top of the line/competition beating.

At those prices, unless the MH is retardedly high, I don't see miner's buying out stocks.

I wonder if the retailers mentioned in the article are preemptively taking advantage of Miners. Though, wasn't AMD originally only going to offer RX Vega in bundles?

Id want to hear from AMD before saying anything. This is an extremely negative message days before the card launches.

And what proof is there that it is AMD and not the retailers doing this? Retailers are price gouging rx580s, wouldnt doubt they do it to Vega as well.

I like the theory that AMD realized they could keep a stash themselves at one of their facilities with low electricity costs and are doing racks of mining themselves. :)

More likely is that preorders have already eaten up most of the pipeline already, so they can charge higher prices to make more money while limiting the sell-through rate. While seemingly annoying for the consumer, it's probably a decent sign that AMD is still expecting this to sell well enough.

Well this sucks, I'm a lot more exited for 56 though, could overclock really well and beat the 64, hopefully you can flash the 56, if not it's a bit RIP for that idea

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

What :/? A liquid cooled 1080 TI seems to be such a better deal, this is really disappointing for those looking to get a Vega 64 LE, especially if the liquid cooled edition comes close to 900$/€.

4 Independent retailers reported it was told to them by AMD that's the whole scandal part...

My opinion: the relevant question is whether miners are going to pay it, and at mining the Nvidia references don't apply.

The RX 480 and co. didn't go up to 1070 prices and beyond due to gaming performance...

Perhaps, though the mining performance at present is merely a myth/hope
