Back to school gift package suggestions

dizmo

It's that time of year again, back to school! I know, I know. I should be shot for mentioning such things.

Anyway, my cousin is starting his first year of University and I'm sending him a care package.

I was wondering what tech, or non-tech items you guys can think of including that'd be useful?

I got him a few nice things for Christmas last year (battery bank, pens, expensive mechanical pencil, etc).

So far I have gotten him:

  • Sennheiser Momentum on ear headphones.
  • Seiko 5 automatic watch (for something that doesn't ever need batteries).

Looking more for small items to round out the package.

He's a tall, skinny shy fellow if that at all influences your suggestions :P

He's going into General Studies with a bias towards Sciences.

Can I be your cousin? I don't get any gifts from relatives, other than my parents, and some gift cards from granparents/uncles/aunts at Christmas...

Haha, sure :P His dad died a couple years ago and due to family politics that side of his family doesn't talk to him really, so it's just him and my aunt (and my parents too, but they're not too well off). If I wasn't there to give him cool stuff he'd be stuck getting nothing but mom gifts!

I went with the Over Ears in case he doesn't like in ears.

TBH I'm not even sure if he has a laptop. I was going to get him one but figured I'd leave it for his mom.

I thought about getting him a battery case for his phone but it seems kind of redundant with the battery bank.

Trying to think of things that helped me study...but the only thing I can think of was my gf nagging at me, and I can't send him one of those :P

Food is basically what I always looked forward to in my care packages but thats just me.

Haha, yeah food would be good...if he wasn't living at home. Plus his mom's a doctor she'd kill me if I gave him that many noodles :P Good idea though, I'll probably throw in a bunch just for my own nostalgia.

Depending on what he is studying I would recommend a voice recorder for the lectures, maybe a nice pen, because I found that weighted pens make writing less tiring. If he has a laptop but no mouse grab him like an MX anywhere and that should pretty much set him up. Maybe a few exercise books too because those are like near essential.

I suck a typing, preparw for typos.

Ah! Thanks I knew I forgot to mention something on the OP.

I think he'd just use his phone for a voice recorder. The MX is a great idea though! I love my Master.

I got him a nice pen as part of his last-half-of-high-school Christmas gift pack.

He's not that much of a gamer, I don't think he'd know what to do with it. I did think about getting him an SNES Classic...but I think that's more my time than his :P

I didn't know about those controllers though, might have to add one to my list of things to buy...

He still lives at home so his mom will still be providing meals for him, but those are great ideas!
Have you ever used either of the cookers?

The Switch is a bit out of budget, and I think he's more of an Xbox guy.

Cards is an excellent idea though! I wonder if he'd find it amusing or "beneath him"... :P

Hahaha I get the distinct feeling he wouldn't need the former, and the latter is a bit expensive to ship.
