What would be your solution then?

Simple. The Windows should detect when HDR content is displayed and when it's not, and based on that adjust on the fly.

Not have the user switch it on when they want to enjoy the feature.

What if the content isn't full screen? What if the content doesn't tell Windows it's HDR even though it is? What if you're mixing SDR and HDR content? What if your the contents were a mix of sRGB and Rec.2020?

Hello everyone.

Last year I bought a Samsung 43" UHD + HDR10 enabled TV, and have a GTX 1080 G1 from Gigabyte.

So i thought to myself, FINALLY. HDR content will look awesome on it.
Nope. It took me a few weeks to figure out PC wasn't ready and when the creators update was out, just like Linus said it was far from good.

But somehow, i got further with it then Linus... (yes, not kidding)

You see, i figured out that, if you went to the Nvidia settings, and set the monitor to a color output of YCbCr422, with 12 bit
Then enable the HDR on Windows 10..
And then
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING.

Shut down the PC..  -NOT RESTART-
And then turn it on again.

Then the HDR will be enabled on both the TV AND in Windows 10, completely.

It will display HDR perfectly. LIke watching Planet Earth II in UHD+HDR, or any other video content that is 10bit+HDR enabled!!

In all it took me MONTHS to get it right, and most of the time I have it off, due to other content looking oversaturated haha.

But I guess that's what you get when you get new tech. Very specific instructions. But it's worth it (and the series Planet Earth II as well)
