Won't be because of same reason Kabylake isn't soldered (size)

Too small, or too big?

Sounds like this is the announce, not availability? Depending on pricing I'd like one of those 6 cores to play with... ignore that I already have Ryzen and Skylake-X for my 6+ core playing... gotta test them all!

i would be really interested how those 6 cores compare to my current LGA 2011 6 core. would it finally be worth the switch, or am i good for another long while? :P

It should beat it with adequate cooling. Your biggest advantage is you are soldered.

There's 2011 original and later -3, was there another? There were v2 CPUs but I don't think there ever was a -2 socket.

There was Socket 2011, 2011 R2, and 2011 R3. No idea why there isn't a 2011-v2, but R2 is it.

The new i5 and i7 will be the new gaming king. I'd imagine the 8700K will give Ryzen a real run for its money for productivity.

So it's looking like i3 = 4c4t, i5 = 6c6t & i7 = 6c12t.

I don't see any reason to give intel shit about the socket update. 1151 wasn't designed to handle that many cores, and that is why we have 2011. A revision for 6 core support is expected, and completely fair.

As long as the i5-8600K costs no more than $250 and the i7-8700K is $350, it should be quite a comfortable choice as long as they keep the ring bus design.

Also don't they usually do the mobile updates/unveiling first, and desktop is out several months later? I though desktop wasn't expected until Q1.

Moment of silence for Kaby Lake owners, y'all got duped. 7th Generation, didn't even last a year xD Enjoy your i4s (somewhere between i3-i5)

I'm still upset my "never obsolete" computer from 1998 became obsolete in 1999.

Rumors are they're keeping the ring bus design. The Mesh was for Intel's Xeon MCC-HCC Purley processors. We'll know for sure though in a few weeks. :)

You know it won't be.

Any ways this is good news for me, I can't wait for 10nm to come to perhaps see an actual performance gain other than multiple refreshes aiming nothing but power efficiency and this gets us closer to it, AMD competing helps a lot too.
