ASUS S56CM?

casparolesen

Hey guys!

I'm looking for a laptop (I currently don't own one). I'm primarily going to use it for school, but I also wanna playlb_icon1.png some games on the go. Low/Medium graphic settings is all fine, when I can play everything on Ultra back home ;-) I stumbled upon an ASUS S56CM at my local store, and because I work there, I get some discounts.

Specs:

Intel Core i5-3317U processor (1.7 GHz) (dual core, 4 threads)

15,6" HD display (1366 x 768)

6 GB DDR3 RAM (1600 MHz)

500 harddisk +24 GB SSD hybriddisk

100/1000 LAN, Wireless network (b/g/n) and Bluetooth

NVIDIA GeForce GT635M with 2 GB DDR3 og HDMI

DVD-burner

USB 3.0, webcam og cardreader

Numpad keyboard

Windows 8 [64-bit]

Weight: 2,3 kg.

Price: 955 USD (Denmark prices - yuck)

I don't really want to exceed this price point by too much.

Is that some okay specs? And is that 1366x768 resolution really as bad as everyone says?

Thanks!

/Caspar

Note: Sometimes the S56CM is also listed as K56CM - don't ask me why :P

Pretty expensive i must say. Here it only cost around USD 760 (RM 2,299).

The display viewing angle is pretty bad (or common for 768p screen i must say). Not to mention the slow 5400 RPM HDD, although it have 24GB SSD as cache drive, it still slow as heck.

Depend of what game u planning to play, GT635M in S56 come with 96sp which is a crippled version of GT555M and the processor is not quite powerful for modern games.

You could check out murutattack's Videos. He test most games on his GT630M Powered laptop. http://www.youtube.com/user/murutattack Take note that he is running most of them at Max/High Settings and at 720p. Since the laptop you have in mind has GT635M and has more VRAM then I would say you could game pretty much a lot of modern games on low-high settings @ 720p. The price of your laptop is rather expensive though. There are some laptops that has that price and a GT650M which is faster.

Im actually looking for a laptop myself for gaming + programming. Might make a topic for suggestion soon...
