Changes to the way status updates notify you.

RGProductions
Go to solution Solved by colonel_mortis,

I agree that the current system is stupid. I have pointed out to the developers numerous times that the current system is stupid. Unfortunately, the developers have shown no interest in fixing this, and fixing it without them isn't really possible because it would involve significant changes to the stock code, in ways that aren't really supported.

I know this is something that is wanted by a lot of people though.

This has probably bothered people like me for a long time, who post more status updates than topics, and replay to them often. So, for example, I'll reply to somebody's status update, say @CUDA_Cores, and since he's a popular person 28 other people reply to it after me over night. I'll get up in the morning, see I have 30 odd notifications, and open all of them in new tabs. But 28 of those were the same status update. So now I have 28 tabs of the same thing open. This is really annoying, and a seemingly easy fix. Just have all replies to one status update compound into a single notification, like it does on threads that you are following, so its like (insert user here) and 27 others replied to (insert first bit of text from status update here). If for some reason this is impossible, then the solution could be to put it like (insert username here) replied to (first bit of status update here) like when you get tagged in one.  So now i still have all my 28 same notifications, but I can open only one tab because I can see that they're all on the same status update. Hopefully this can be implemented, it's bothered me and other very social users like @themctipers for a very long time, and it doesn't seem too hard to implement.

It also doesn't seem like a huge deal to fix. I hope this gets implemented, I usually get 40 notifications a day or so when I go to bed, I wake up check it, open the tabs, and it turns out 7/8 of them are from 2 status updates.

I don't think it would be hard for @colonel_mortis to implement. There is meant to be an update coming soon and they may add this.

I don't see why they can't. It already works that way for certain threads, but if for some reason it wont work with status updates, then the other thing where it shows some of the update should help so i dont open 28 of the same tabs :)

LTT uses Invision software for the forum. They use version 4.0 or 4.1, I don't know. I know another forum already on the new 4.2 update.

cool. Don't know too much about the inner workings of the forum, other than it really hates slow internet connections sometimes.
