Build's worth, possible issues, tips, and warnings.

long story short someone in a player group I am in is selling their old build since they upgraded a few months ago and want someone else to enjoy it, especially someone from said group. the price I was personally given is $200 for this build:

Case: LOGISYS Computer CS6801BK Aluminum Mini-ITX Tower Computer Case
CPU: AMD A10-7700K Kaveri Quad-Core 3.4 GHz Socket FM2+ 95W
MOBO: MSI A68HM-E33 V2 FM2+ AMD A68H SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
Ram: 8GB (4GB x2) DDR3-2133 G.SKILL RIPJAWS RAM
CPU cooler: CRYORIG C7 - 47mm Tall, SFF Mini ITX CPU Heatsink
GPU powercolor TurboDuo R9 280
PSU: 350w psu (no specific item name atm, came with the case)
Storage: Hitachi (0A38876) 1TB 32MB Cache 7200RPM SATA2 (3.0Gbps) 3.5

notes:
-the psu is missing the cord to power the gnu
-the current owner smokes (cigarettes, weed.. i hate this about the buy.. I'm iffy because of this) however not inside
-the case has no fans (jacked for the new build, so will need some)
-the GPU has not been mined with

known issues:
-PSU doesn't have enough wattage to power the GPU
-i will need new fans, im thinking of getting a better case and just saving money in the long run.
-if the pc smells if could be a deal breaker

I guess what I'm wanting to know is if its worth it, smell and issues that need to be fixed included
Thanks in advance!

Eh...not really worth $200. I'd pass and get something else.

You shouldn't worry about people smoking. It has little effect on performance, and metal doesn't usually keep smells.

It seems a bit over-priced to me, especially with no fans, and essentially no (usable) PSU. That CPU is also a bit long in the tooth, and 8GB of RAM is going to be an issue quickly. I guess it depends on what you want to use the system for, and how much time/money you want to put into it.

Screwdriver specs: Long, pointy. Turns things. Some kind of metal.

Main rig:

i9-7900x | Asus X299-Prime | 4x8GB G-Skill TridentZ @3300MHz | Samsung 970 Evo 500GB | Intel 5400S 1TB | Corsair HX1200

unRAID server:

Xeon  E5-1630v4 |  Asus X99-E WS | 4x8GB G-Skill DDR4 @2400MHz | Samsung 960 EVO 250GB cache drive | 12TB spinning rust | Corsair RM750X

FreeNAS server:

AMD something-or-other | Asus prebuilt sadness | 8GB DDR3-1600 | 9TB magnetic storage | Potential fire threat

HTPC:

i7-4790 | GTX1650 | Dell Sadness | 12GB DDR3-1600 | Samsung 860 250GB | 1TB magnetic storage | James Loudspeaker SPL3 x2 | Corsair SF450

The GPU is super old. I think a current 1050 would probably beat it.

The other parts:

  • PSU is garbage.
  • Case is generic, worth maybe $10.
  • Motherboards of that socket can be had dirt cheap.

I mean, I guess it's not suuuuper terrible. I recently picked up a cooler, motherboard, 8GB of RAM and an i5 4590 for what equates to $110 USD. You should look for something like that.

What's your total budget like? If you can manage $400, check out eBay for a few weeks. It's an excellent source for deals, but you have to wait it out. I got my previous PC on there for $550, and it was easily worth 4x that.

yeah its roughly equal to a gtx 970. and the chip isn't the best.

my budget is $700 tho the cheaper per performance is better. I'm currently using an hp pavilion 17 that's a few years old. so anything is an upgrade at this point

Haha, yeah snag something from eBay. It took me I think 3 weeks of watching every computer go through before I won one that was worth it, but this is what I got for my $550:

  • i5 4690k, 240mm AIO, 8GB RAM, MSI Z97i AC, Enthoo Evolv case, GTX 970 Strix, 500w PSU, 120GB SSD and a 2TB HDD.
  • U2412M monitor.
  • Razer RGB mechanical keyboard, some Logitech mouse, full desk pad.
  • Set of Logitech 2.1 speakers
