Nexus 5x: Is the bootloop overhyped?

iamdarkyoshi

Or does it really happen to like most of them? I got my mom a used 5x for her birthday, and I'm waiting for it to come in the post. But with all these complaints of bootlooping, is it really affecting every phone? Apparently the 6p had bootloop issues as well, but mine's been working flawless.

Is there anything that can help prevent it? Some sites say its the flash chip failing, and some say its the CPU, and disabling 4 cores will let it boot. But those seem like two different issues.

Anyone got some insight into this issue? Will they RMA a used phone?

that will work on the nexus 6p, 5X has other more serious issues.

I use a 5X, hope it won't die on me anytime soon... All it does is overheat though and often won't charge if I have the screen on, while plugged into the original charger, with the original charger barely trying (as seen by it not even warming up)
@iamdarkyoshi it's not disabling four cores, it's disabling the two higher performance cores on the snapdragon 808. And that definitely works for some cases, but not all.

Sig under construction.

Been using a 5X from new for about a year. No problems so far. I'd classify myself as a fairly intensive social media user, with occasional gaming loads.

How hot does it get under normal use?

There are bootlop fixes all over XDA though.

Sure, and there were a lot of things about a particular software update causing software bootlooping, which could be fixed, but hardware problems are harder to fix with software?

It doesn't get hot unless gaming. Pokemon Go is about the worst and it does feel noticeably hot then. Lighter game like Clash of Clans can make it slightly warmer but not much.

I don't know if it is overhyped but it happened on my less than 1 year old Nexus 5X, and Since great deal for Moto Z was going on at the time I returned Nexus to Amazon, paid 10 additional € and bought Moto Z.

Its not overhyped. All LG devices in existence have the bootloop issue, even the ones that are working fine. Theres a class action lawsuit against LG and they have been ordered to recall all affected devices. Also if you buy an LG phone there's no warranty/returns coverage. LG is evil, you should never buy any of their existing and future phones because they are intent on making bootloop devices to ruin their reputation. I know cuz I'm a terminator from the future. Also don't believe any of the available fixes because none of them work. If you see a guy with a working LG device, its a fake not a real LG phone.

I'd get rid of it ASAP...why have it when the potential is there for it to fail?

I'm currently looking to sell my 5x and will be buying a Moto Z/Play until something better catches my eye.

  • 3 weeks later...

Sorry for necroposting on this thread, but my 5X just started bootlooping today. Fortunately it's still under warranty for a couple more months...

Still, the bootloop is real and completely spontaneous. If I didn't have the warranty then I'd try the disabling the higher performance cores method, which could be helpful or could not be helpful.

Sig under construction.
