It's a purist format. Only for the people that want the raw media in its cleanest format without the bullshit. The way it was meant to be seen.

i think half the people on this forum werent even born until after VHS had already been phased out.

and thats not just me being an asshole, the Format War between Blu-Ray and HDDVD started in 2000. and VHS was basically dead by the end of 2003.  so anybody under the age of 17 has likely never even seen one. fuck now i feel old..

I do. Still have a working VCR in me room for when I need to play my old 70's por - I mean, um, family videos...

We have one hooked up. LOL. My mom still has a lot of Disney movies on VHS. She has been slowly replacing them with DVD and Bluray. 

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Believe it or not there is actually some content out there that ONLY exists on VHS.  It was never later released to DVD or other newer formats.  There are collectors for these obscure kinds of films.  Not to mention collectors in general.  Even I can think of a few VHS tapes I wouldn't mind owning, even if they'd only be on display.

TMNT - Original Movie - That puffy excess of "cushioned" cover plastic,... is sought after by those who have a crappy/damaged cover.

Just one example that comes to mind...

Yup.  Even if that film is on Blu-Ray there can be individuals who want a copy of the VHS tape, just like the one they watched to death as a child.  I went out of my way to buy a copy of Half-Life, with the box and everything, JUST to own that, I already had the game on Steam, but I wanted the boxed to display.

I'm the same way with certain games certainly nothing like having a physical copy of things. 

 

Also I miss rewinding and fast forwarding VHS's and seeing that scratchey film effect at the bottom.

VHS HiFi was actually very good for its time (audio-wise). S-VHS was an improvement in image quality over it, and D-VHS made the move to Digital. D-VHS offered a 28.2 Mbps max CBR bitrate (upto 1080i MPEG-2 video and 16/48 PCM / AC-3 / DTS audio) and a 50 GB tape capacity.

Some movies are not available in any other format, and that includes there being no torrents available for them. Examples: Malibu Bikini Shop (1986), Lunch Box (1992), Body Waves (1992)... I keep a VCR around for digitizing such classics. ;)
