Well this can't be good, Vega 64 could be great for mining

DoctorWho1975

https://videocardz.com/71591/rumor-amd-radeon-rx-vega-64-to-be-great-for-mining

This information comes from a good source of mine, but for now, take it with a grain of salt. Apparently, new features were enabled on the latest RX Vega driver, which have also (indirectly) increased mining performance of Vega.

I’m not a fan of sharing numbers I can’t verify, but we are looking at at least doubled Vega Frontier mining performance (which has a hash rate of ~30 MH/s).

IF TRUE, then this is very bad news for gamers, graphics card manufacturers, and also AMD.

With probable AIB's pricing for V64 in the 600 dollar range there may be no gaming cards left except for some 1070's and 1080's, i kind of hope this is not true as it means I can actually get a hold of one.

Either way, whatever card is the miner's most efficient cards for their dollar, will be basically not viable for gaming consumers. It's always going to be a loss for us, while cryptocurrency mining is profitable.

So according to Gibbo from overclockers UK Rx Vega might be extremely fast at mining.

according to him the card will do around 70-100Mh/s which is bad news for consumers trying to buy vega cards.

here is the full quote:

Quote

"Seems the hash rate on VEGA is 70-100 per card, which is insanely good. :(

Trying to devise some kind of plan so gamers can get them at MSRP without the miners wiping all the stock out within 5 minutes of product going live."

https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/gibbo-vega-preorders.18788127/page-6#post-31026435

Although ethereum is harder to mine right now if this is true it would trigger a new mining wave because the ROI would be much better because of the sheer speed of this card.

I'm seriously considering a Ryzen build in a couple of months and cannot afford to switch over to Team Green and pay the massive TG tax. Got a pretty good v-sync monitor I can't afford to replace which for a comparable model will be 1Kish on top of 600 to 800 dollar new video card vs buying just a new video card.

Limit cards to 2 each, and have them put in their phone # and email to purchase. That'll make it harder for people to buy masses of them.

Much better idea! It'd be pain for legit buyers, but less of a pain than there being no cards to buy in the first place.

mining is not profitable in canada, so we will have vega for everyone!

to bad it's $650-700 for a vega probably, since a 1070 is already $600+

138 is a good number.

so i'm required to give up bank account numbers in order to purchase a product that's available on the shelf? What's going to happen to everyone who DOES buy off the shelf? "No Vega for you!"? What about retailers who don't want to have a relationship with PayPal? Best Buy would tell you to pack sand. Amazon would tell you to pack sand.

how many are you gonna sell then?

Locking payments through a singular exclusive 3rd party BANK is a MASSIVELY bad idea...

Unfortunately in some parts of Canada Hydro rates are lower and mining is profitable. :(

Plus with the Cnd dollar so low us buyers scoop them up as well.

Cards have been sold out in Ontario for weeks

Anyone know who has Rx Vega pre-orders in Canada?

If you're buying off the shelf it's easy to say 2 per person because you see the person you're selling to.

Only ship Vega cards to retailers using Paypal for transactions.  It's easy to generate an unlimited number of virtual credit card numbers.  It's hard to generate multiple paypal accounts.

Paypal isn't the same as a bank account.
