gt 1030... yes or no..?

hi,

 

i'm trying to decide between gpu's... my 'ancient' radeon hd 6670 is struggeling on a lot of newer games, and i'd like something more powerful.

 

problem is, i have a Core 2 Quad q9550, which is pretty slow by today's standards. i'm wondering if my cpu will bottleneck the 1030, or if i can get a bit more out of it, like a radeon 570 or something.

 

my target resolution is 1080p, and i play games like ARK, Battlefield 4, and newer Need For Speed games. 

 

i have 8gb of ram, so that should be fine i guess. 

 

i also can't use cards that need extra power, because my psu doesn't have pci-e power connectors. 

 

i'm not intrested in building an entirely new system, this machine does everything else i want it to do just fine.

no way a 1030 will provide a better experience. Get yourself a 1050 or 1050ti. 1030 is a junk card that should never have existed in the first place.

Upgrade your CPU first to a r3 1200

will a radeon rx 560 be better as well? those are nearly €100 less expensive where i live. pricing sucks here...

No x1000.  If you are that strapped for cash get a GTX 1050.

i don't mind low settings, but right now, i get about 20fps on low settings...

But i think you should go either used. if you don't want used go for the Rx 560 or 460

Yeah, the 750ti is old, but it has the capabilities to float a game above 30 FPS

Fair enough but I don't think there's much you can pair a 9 year old CPU with that won't get bottlenecked.  Also the 1050 and 1050ti both just get power through the PCIe slot I believe.

Best bet is the Rx 460 or 560. look for one that doesn't have a Power connector.

1050ti usees a 6-pin connector, at least most do. 1050 regular shouldn't have one.

okay, but now, with my old card, i'm only using about 60% of my cpu...
