Dark theme complaining

Maybe there was talk about this before, but here is once more.

Every now or then there is a complain that something does not look good on the night theme. Since I've never seen complains about day theme and as a day theme user (never bothered to switch) never seeing a problem, there is obviously something wrong with a night theme. Not to say that it is annoying to see "fix the post for night theme" posts so often. I can see these solutions for fixing the problem:

  • make contrasting of the font colors regarding of the theme being used (difficult to implement)
  • disable using of the different colors in the posts
  • make post previews in both themes
  • (drastic) remove night theme all together

It is obvious that night theme is bugged and my opinion is that posting "fix for night theme" is just bothering of OP instead of addressing the right people which should fix this issue. After all, it takes much less time to temporarily switch to day theme than to write complaint about not being able to see on night theme.

Alternative solution. Force font colors to 'automatic' and require users to change it manually.

 

Also, fuck the day theme.

It's not bugged it's a feature. So when you post say a reddit link it auto embeds. I would much prefer an auto format though for text color

As I said, it is not a problem of user who is posting. That is the issue here. If text formatting causes a problem on night theme, it is an issue. To resolve the problem just remove remove custom formatting, do not blame OPs for that.

The night theme complaints come when someone copies black text into the editor without changing the font color to automatic. When you fail to set the font color to automatic the black text on a grey background is very hard to read.

Night theme isn't bugged, posters post formatted text. When you copy paste, the forum even prompts text has formatting and gives an option to remove it. 

 

It's 100% user driven. When you post text and not copy and paste anything preformated, text shows fine.

 

If the forum forced automatic text, then we'd have something. Dark on dark is super difficult to read and makes me less inclined to help. I'm sure I'm not the only person that skips those threads and it's unfortunate.

I feel like a broken record here. Then remove damn formatting all together or make it not default option while pasting and problem solved. Or

When you paste formatted text a warning pops up at the bottom of the editor informing you that it is formatted and asks if you want to remove formatting. You click remove formatting and it becomes visible to dark theme users. It doesn't do it automatically because reformatting can screw up text justification and remove some links. If you want to keep formatting and have no visibility issues all you have to do is highlight the text and change the font color to automatic.

Because if you had it automatically set the color of all copied text to automatic you would never be able to copy colored text into the editor.

The problem is the automatic colour isn't completely black or white for either. This is complete black and this is complete whiote the problem is the automatic is kinda undecided.

TBH, I don't care which version certain user likes more. If night theme were default one, I would probably use it instead. I use day theme because I never bothered to switch. My whole point of this post was that there are 2 themes and too many complaints from night theme users about formatting and not vice versa. I think that existence of 2 themes which are not 100% compatible IS a problem. If I've done something comparable to this in my company, I would be told to make them 100% compatible or go away.

And just to address this. If I put myself in boots of novice user on this forum and I see that message I would probably ignore it. Why? Let's say that "novice user" uses default day theme, on preview everything looks nice so the "novice user" is wandering: "Why should I remove the formatting?" 

If that message is changed to something like "It is formatted text and it will probably look like shit for night theme users" then we would see much more people removing formatting thus minimizing this issue.

the message is fine as it is. and changing it wouldnt help novice users either since they wont look at it. which is why we either find a way to read it ourselves, or ask them nicely to change it.

there is no forum bug to fix.

your idea of "problem solving" is "tuck it under the carpet". 

 

I did not start this topic to complain but to find the best possible solution. In this topic we concluded that it is not the bug, that it would be difficult to technically fix it etc. Posts are there and everyone can read them. Changing the message from the developer's perspective is easy and for sure it would decrease the number of posts with formatting enabled thus decrease number of complains. Also, adding additional warnings is also possible. We have the saying which says even kick in the butt is the step forward so there is nothing to lose. Problems should be solved at it's source.

If I want to paste a list or instructional with numbering, italicized, or bold text, "remove formatting" will remove... wait for it... all formatting. It's not a good idea to remove all formatting, in general, as the content may not be neatly organized as it would have been.

Selecting the whole post and clicking the text colour button and selecting auto colour will fix it.

 

Disabling the use of cololurs above and below a certain brightness sounds like the best way to do it, making them default to auto colour
