That's really interesting, AI never fails to surprise tbh

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Reminds me of a hypothetical Stamp collecting AI that starts out innefficiently with ordering stamps on Ebay, optimizes it's behaviour by taking control of all the worlds printers and it all ends with the AI thinking "What are stamps made of? Carbon. Hmm. Humans are made out of Carbon too...!" :D

Well a neuronal net is jsu a big optimization algorithm. The hardest thing to set a reasonalbe goal and develop a method to measure how close you are to this goal. An AI doen't do everything for you, it's actually a difficult engineering task. Not sure why it is news worthy when they failed, because that's simple how you learn you to tweek the algorithm.

Humans really have no predators that we couldn't take on. Sure an alligator or tiger might snatch someone up now and then, but it isn't something we have to worry about. We can outcompete any animal for resources and environment. There are no intelligent threats to our existence. I'm pretty sure our opposition is significantly different than say, a rhinoceros.

In other news, Facebook AI turn itself back on, when researchers known for sure, they had shut it down.

Viruses and bacteria are lifeforms too.

No, we cannot. Micro-organisms and even some insects are far more widespread and resilient.

A threat is a threat :P I mean, you can have a specific definition of "opposition", as in "opposed to a particular goal", but you have to define that goal, and then you may indeed be correct (the question is whether such a thing as "goal of humanity" can be defined and agreed on). I just took it as having any sort of threat that could potentially lead to our extinction if driven out of balance. In that sense, we are as successful and "unopposed" as any other non-extinct life form: we exist, for now. That's as much as we can say.

Dude, it's semantics at this point.

First, you need to know, pathogens are not predators, and we can certainly take them on. Also, I don't believe we compete with bacteria for resources or environment.

Of course there are more physically resilient life forms. I can't take a gator in a fight. As a species humans are more resilient due to the ability to adapt to adverse conditions. There is no single species more widespread than humans save for this guy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tardigrade and this guy is no threat.

Humans do run unopposed when you consider what creature is likely to oppose our ability to survive as a species. Even "super bacteria" are unlikely to extinguish humanity. There are researchers currently altering their genomes to destroy their ability to reproduce, which will eliminate the need for stronger antibiotics. That's where we are as a species. We will literally make other species extinct themselves. We can do it with mosquitoes, too http://rockstarresearch.com/engineering-the-extinction-of-40-species-of-mosquitoes/ (There are actually THREE techniques to do this, THREE. Humans hate mosquitoes ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ). That's why people fear the singularity, AI could potentially outhuman the humans (though it probably won't).

If you just want to argue semantics to get your kicks have at it. When I say opposition to humans, I'm referring to creatures like the neanderthals, some 30,000 years ago, and you know what? They're dead. Just like my interest in continuing this farce with you. smh.

I think a lot of people are missing the point here.

These bots created their own language because English was inefficient.

That means the human race, if a new universal language was created, could complete their daily work in a far more efficient manner.

Imagine, instead of your boss saying, "You're fired because all you do is stare at memes", which on average takes 3 seconds to say, they would say "U want sum fuk", which only takes a second to say.

We'd save so much time because our communications would be shorter, which is what these bots did.
