FX 6300 vs i5-2400

Hi there,

My little brother currently have an fx 6300 in his system and I might be able to get a i5-2400 for free.

So will the i5-2400 perfom any better in games than the fx 6300?

Not really. But even if there was a slight improvement, if you got the 2400 you would also have to buy a new board so it's not worth it at all

Have you overclocked your fx 6300? That would be the cheapest way to increase performance.

I mean if it is free than take it, why not? And then just experiment and see which is faster.

Yup. I've got an i5 2400 (paid for it tho :(), and it's pretty good. IDK if its faster than your FX CPU (but it probs has a better IPC).

I will mention that most of the benchmarks I've seen, the i5 outperformed the FX in a few areas. Also fairly sure the i5 puts out less heat than the FX(i could be wrong)

Personally, I'd take the free i5 and benchmark both of them and find out. :)
