Big case vs Small case.

Nosfy

Hey guys.

What is the best option for optimal airflow and cooling? Having a really large case so there is plenty of space for air to move around or a smaller case that "funnels" the air more directly?

CPU - i7 8700K / Motherboard - ROG Strix Z370 E/ RAM - 32GB Cosair Vengeance DDR / GPU  - GTX 1080ti - EVGA FTW3 / PSU - Seasonic Snow Silent 750W / Cooling - Cryorig H7 Monitor - Acer X34 Predator / Sound - Corsair Void - Case - Meshify C

Large case, a mid tower would be fine.

Please quote our replys so we get a notification and can reply easily. Never cheap out on a PSU, or I will come to watch the fireworks.

I have thermaltake core v21, which is small case and there is still enough airflow.

But yes, generally bigger case is better for airflow, and components are cramped in small space, heating each other like it laptops.

Intel i7 12700K | Gigabyte Z690 Gaming X DDR4 | Pure Loop 240mm | G.Skill 3200MHz 32GB CL14 | CM V850 G2 | RTX 3070 Phoenix | Lian Li O11 Air mini

Samsung EVO 960 M.2 250GB | Samsung EVO 860 PRO 512GB | 4x Be Quiet! Silent Wings 140mm fans

Depends on case, but one that has fans to feed cool air for hot components and some well placed exhaust. Like good mATX case would have vents near GPU to allow passive intake and maybe place for fans near exhaust fins, or provide air for blower cooled card. And then 1-2 slots for CPU coolers intake. In bigger case it will be more about how much stuff there is between fan and what it needs to cool. So well designed HDD bays and front panel ventilation does miracles. So "top" cases like Phanteks ones, and some editions of MasterMaker's aren't really shining with airflow. And when you have huge case like 900D, there just isn't anything moving air from intake to where it would be needed without adding some inside fans to direct flow.

Thanks, man. That is exactly what I was thinking. Would you class my Enthoo Primo as one of the "top" cases you mention?

I'm not sure about Primo. But Evolv and Evolv M aren't that good with airflow.
