AMD RX Vega Fire Strike scores appear, FE scores about GTX 1080 performance

AMD Radeon RX Vega 3DMark Fire Strike performance

Also, Kyle at Hard Forum has posted a pic of an RX Vega GPU, and said they're putting together a blind gaming test between RX Vega and a GTX 1080 Ti.

Quote

Just a little tease here as to what is coming this week. RX Vega FreeSync vs. GTX 1080 Ti G-Sync Blind Gaming test video being edited now. All done at my house, with gamers with a couple hundred years of twitch gaming experience. All system UEFI and OS set up by me personally.

Kyle responded on Hard Forum to me asking whether he possessed RX Vega already:

Quote

AMD hand delivered it Saturday morning, and took it with them Saturday evening. So, yes, and no.

I'm hoping that aftermarket RX Vega cards will score a nice bit beyond a GTX 1080 in Fire Strike. And if the reviews are good, I'll be replacing my GTX 1070 with RX Vega, and finally be able to make use of my monitor's FreeSync.

It's a bit unfair to compare a reference designed card with an aftermarket ones. Also Founder's Edition is Nvidia naming, AMD just call it reference (or they don't)

OK. I looked through the news section and didn't see a mention of this. It looks like it was moved to the Graphics forum. A mod can do whatever they think best with this post.

They just call it the "hotter" edition with the water-cooled being "slightly less likely to throttle but still has Fury" model.

I'm still confused as to why Vega is using the RX400 series reference coolers as opposed to the newer, RX500 series reference design that was originally proposed :(

I wouldn't buy either (I'm waiting for Volta), but it sucks for people who want Vega if the only cards out the first month or so are blowers.

GTX 1080 FE TDP is 180W, Vega FE TDP is 300W. Still, I hope that RX Vega will be more power efficient than FE Vega - though, I don't know whether that's likely or not.

TDP=/= power draw. To get 1080 FE performance, you need to overclock Vega (based on Vega FE, which performs similarly) and then you get 400+W power draw, a 1080 FE doesn't draw more than 200W.

I wonder what a Vega vs 1080 Ti "blind gaming test" is supposed to test for? Freesync and G-sync are functionally the same, so is it just a test to see who can tell a 15-20 fps difference?

Just want to keep this graph relevant of how AMD isnt poised to release their top tier card until 2018. So I'm not sure why they are comparing this vega to the 1080TI

As long as it doesn't sound like the FX 5800 Ultra, and costs decently less than the GTX 1080 it might be "okay" if you have Freesync.

So? It still shows the expectation to market for upcoming products. It also has the dark red labled at premium and professional. And the dark red is completely encapsulated only in the 2018 bar.

*snip*

Because you can buy the 1080 Ti now. Just like their top tier card next year won't be compared to the 1080 Ti, but to the then current king of the hill from Volta.
