New Malware for MAC

Not here to be a Mac hater. But this is getting ridiculous. With all these exploits being found and stuff. I wonder if the NSA knew about what ever exploit this uses. Or if they created the malware themselves. I wonder if Apple will take this seriously. Not sure how they handle situations like this. I know if MS spots a very serious exploit they tend to release a patch quickly. I wonder if Apple will do the same?

I can't believe they are just finding this now, especially if they say it's been infecting machines since 10.10.

 

I would definitely think it's in the works of being patched or has already been patched, there is an article out and I'm sure they don't want this getting more traction.

Apple needs to focus more on security. Maybe do like Microsoft did and build in some kind of Anti Virus protection.

No offense but I hardly think Microsoft should ever be used as an example for good security. Don't get me wrong it's not terrible but go attend a conference like Def-Con and tell me what you think of there security..

 

IMO Apple still has better security than Windows, and will for the foreseeable future. You can look up a good amount of Malware/Virus's for OS X but you will literally find hundreds upon thousands for Windows.

 

Don't forget about the security wholes windows put into place or the onces that can be found in the Wiki-Leaks files/ Vault 7.

Market share my friend. Microsoft is fast when they find a serious bug and get that patched early. Ive used Windows since 3.11 and Microsoft has done a lot to fix the security issues in Windows. Plus they built an Anti Virus in to Windows and a firewall. 

 

The fact is when your OS has a 89% market share, who do you think the wireless writers are going to write viruses for? Apple isnt worth the time. But now Apple products are becoming more popular. Mac users and plain stupid when it comes to security. Fact is most virus infections are cause by the users not doing their due diligence. Plus like they say, with enough time and effort, any OS can be cracked and hacked.

That's where your wrong... Apples are definitely worth the time. I work in IT and a ton of my Financial and Medical clients use OS X systems. A hacker could gain a ton more from user like that then 100 Windows users, and the OS X system is locked down tight compared to Windows. There are tons of Anti-Virus and Anti-Malware applications for OS X, they don't offer one out of the box which yes is generally risky but like I said they have a completely locked down App Store. The only thing that makes them insecure is the end user, who downloads a ton of shit.

That's a common misconception. It's got nothing to do with the market. Unix based systems like Linux and OS X are inherently more secure. Everything has security flaws, but Windows is less secure and will always be at a disadvantage, unless they make a whole new OS (called Windows) and break compatibility with everything. 

 

And if you want to talk about usage percentage, Linux dominates it. Damn near every every non-PC (from routers to traffic systems to smart fridges) uses Linux. Most of the Web is hosted on Linux. One well written worm could take down an insane number of websites. 

 

This is why I wish the US government would switch to Linux. We've been hacked a ridiculous number of times, and we paid Microsoft to let us keep using XP. While I'm not super fond of Linux (I'll almost always run Windows if I can), it's safer and it's free.

actually, the problem is apple is so good at security that exploits are worth far more on the black market than what apple pay for them.

I actually didn't know that, but I do know that they use Windows a lot. They even paid Microsoft to keep giving them XP updates IIRC.
