Why is mobile hotspot slower than on the mobile?

WolfLoverPro

Ok so I'm on holiday using my phone as a hotspot and my phone is right next to my laptop but I've got 45 go of data so I don't care downloading gb of stuff and I was trying to update a steam game and even just browsing web or videos SO SLOW yet it's fast on my phone at that same time so why is it so slower I mean it's the same connection so?

Because the laptop still has to go through Wi-Fi to get to the phone, which the phone probably isn't as good at doing.

Oh ok I just thought it was going through phone

is there a way to get max 4g speed but through laptop ? Because my phone has reached 3mbps and that's better than my wifi lol

Your provider is most likely throttling your speeds. Yes, they can see all the devices that you tether from.

The reason is so slow is there is too much over head and the wifi antenna in most phones.

You have a weak antenna fighting interference to the laptop while being processed by the phone and normal CPUs are not designed to handle wifi calculation very efficiently so there is even more delay and processing. Wifi is based on allowed times devices can talk. Every ns of time is data not being utilized and therefore less bandwidth. Same concepts of why a $10 chip designed for a router will smoke an i5 custom router.

Its just overhead on top of over head. USB tethering is the only thing worth bothering with.
