Undervolting i7 6700k issues

Hello!

Before i explain my problems i want to say that this is not my native language so ask me if you dont understand something.

Also i suppose you have to know my build so here it is:

   -Phanteks Eclipse P400S White
   -I7 6700k @ 4.00Ghz - 1.2v (??)
   -Gigabyte z270x Gaming K5 Aorus
   -Kingston Hyperx 2x8Gb 3000Mhz
   -GeForce GTX 1080 Founder Edition
   -NZXT Kraken x52
   -Corsair RM1000i
   -WD SATA 3 Red 2TB

   -Asus VG248QE 24'' 144Hz
-Corsair Strafe RGB Cherry MX silent
   -Logitech G403 Wired

At the beginning i had at full load 90C temps so i decided to undervolt my cpu in bios. So i went to voltage advanced settings and changed:

Cpu vcore: from (normal - 1,3v) to (Auto -1,2v)

LLC: from auto to standard

With this changes my temperatures went from 90C to 70C on full load but the voltages have peaks of 1.33v sometimes.

Because of that i decided to not undervolt my cpu even more (that wouldn't make any difference, for some reason).

I would like to now how to undervolt my cpu correctly so it wont pass the vcore voltage  (or at least not to much)

Thanks for any suggestion.

You have something wrong with your cooler. Re-install it and replace the thermal paste. That chip should never hit 90C on water. Also no one would undervolt a K CPU. The whole point of those it to turn the voltage up for overclocking.

Be careful if you are monitoring the actual voltage passed, or the VID which is what the CPU thinks it wants, but doesn't necessarily get. The CPU doesn't actually report the voltage and you have to rely on the mobo.

90C does sound excessive, and may be a mount thing. Under what load do you get those temperatures? Also make check if the mobo might do some core optimisation for you, usually in the form of all cores to 4.2 GHz overclock as it usually boosts voltages a bit to do so.

Undervolting and overclocking are two aspects of the same thing, just in opposite directions. In my experience, 1.25V is ok at 4.2 GHz under Prime95 but it may go unstable at lower voltages. Less stressful loads might get away with less. Auto on mine tends to be over 1.3v.

Main system: i9-7980XE, Asus X299 TUF mark 2, Noctua D15, Corsair Vengeance Pro 3200 3x 16GB 2R, RTX 3070, NZXT E850, GameMax Abyss, Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, Acer Predator XB241YU 24" 1440p 144Hz G-Sync + HP LP2475w 24" 1200p 60Hz wide gamut
Gaming laptop: Lenovo Legion 5, 5800H, RTX 3070, Kingston DDR4 3200C22 2x16GB 2Rx8, Kingston Fury Renegade 1TB + Crucial P1 1TB SSD, 165 Hz IPS 1080p G-Sync Compatible

The cooler is fine is just the voltage, im sure. It was 90C under a prime95 stress test before i changed the voltage, then it went down to 70C.

I think is what porina said, maybe i looked at the vid.

Also i didnt say that i disabled the turbo boost, because it was always active (at idle too). Now the cpu works with lower clock speed and voltages when i dont need it.

Btw, i decided to undervolt my cpu because of the high temps and the excesive voltage the cpu had. I will overclock it when i think i need it but now, 4ghz are ok.

EDIT: im not at home until august so I cant check if what you said is the answer to my problem.

I have my 6700k running @ 4.3 with 1.180V right now Auto LLC - Aida64 Test never goes over 79 and RealBench was 81 after running Aida64 for 1 hour all with the Cryorig H7

I would try 4.2 @ 1.2 on Manual mode , then go from there...

This is my bios after the first undervolt

http://m.imgur.com/account/ALP09/images/uCy0nu1

Now the settings are the same except:

-Vcore: 1,2v

-VCCPLL OC 1,09v

The results running xtu stress test is this:

But when im playing games i have peaks of 1,33v (idk if thats the real voltage or the VID i will check it when i arrive home). Hope it is the VID..

Btw what i should modify in the first picture?

Thanks for your quick answers!

My temps are fine (~70C running Prime95 heat test) but i cant ignore those voltage peaks.

Might be me but your link aren't working..

VID = what CPU request

VCORE = what is been given

If your LLC is set to AUTO you might have big jump in Voltage , try testing with LLC @ 1 , then @ 5 ..

Links only works with Wi-Fi (for me).

My LLC is standard and my bios have 3 more options: auto, high and turbo.

Im gonna try to fix the links.
