Problem with fan controlling

gpocz

Hi! I recently built a system based on the Asrock Z270 Pro4 motherboard. My problem is about the fan controlling. The board has four 4pin connectors for fans. For the CPU connector I connected a 4pin fan, the fan curve working fine. But I have other 3 case fan connectors, in which I've fans (2pcs of Corsair SP120 fans, and 1 other, which is some CoolerMaster fan, that was included with the case (there is another, which is not connected)) which use 3pin connectors. I know, that 3pin fans, couldn't be controlled with pwm, only just with voltage regulation. But what I found weird, is the thing that the 2nd case fan connector works also based on the fan curve, doesn't matter, which fan is connected to it. But to the 1st and 3rd (which can be also used as water pump connector) connectors connected fans just always run at the max speed, and I couldn't controll it, although all 3 case fans have the same settings. I've both tried to set those in the Asrock UEFI BIOS and in Asrock's A-Tuning software, but got the same result. (In the A-Tuning software I can run fan test, which measures that, what's the fan speed at a given fan power. And the 1st and 3rd shows through the fan power scale (10-100%) around the max rpm of the fan. In case of the other 2 fans it's showing "normal" rpm-s.)
I hope it's understandable. (And sorry for my bad English, it's not my native language.)

Thanks any help.

Are the cha fan headers set to dc instead of pwm in bios? Are you adjusting the fan speed to be lower at certain temps? There should be different fan profiles you can apply. If you have y splitter connectors you can connect multiple fans to a single header, your fans won't go above the 1amp limit. I've had the issue where pump header runs at 100percent, just use the cha fan 1-3.

I have the option to chose between DC and PWM only the 3rd fan/pump header, and when there is a (3 pin) fan plugged in to the 3rd cha fan header, it only works when PWM is set.
Yes, I've adjustad in the BIOS all fan speed to be lower at certain temps, which work on the 4pin cpu fan, and on a 3pin fan, if that is plugged into 2nd cha header.

I ordered an Y-cable with the 2 Corsair fans, which was plannad to be used, but it arrived later, and I was curious how to solve this, if I need to in the future. Until it's arrived, I used a Noctua low noise adaptor, that came with the CPU, and it was a good temp solution.
