Usb 3.1

Hi everyone!

I'm building a PC and the mother board z270e has only 2 usb 3.1

One to the front of the PC

And one to the back

I'm wondering

If I buy a usb hub of 7 ports

And connect it to the entrance 3.1

I'll have 7 ports 3.1 instead of one?

Or I would have still 7 ports 3.0

If by connecting there I would have 7 ports 3.1

I still get the performance when using more then one gadget or it doesn't work that way?

It will perform at the lowest USB standard in the chain. So if you have something that's using the USB 3.1 Gen1 (supersedes USB 3.0) standard at some point in the chain, it will only perform at those specifications, not the USB 3.1 Gen2 specs.

So, if you connect a USB 3.1 Gen1 hub to a USB 3.1 Gen2 port/header, it will only perform at USB 3.1 Gen1 specs regardless of how many devices you connect as the controller in the hub is only 3.1 Gen1.

BTW, while it's annoying how the USB standards have been named 3.1 Gen1 and Gen2, it's best to get into the habit of using them as board manufacturers are listing what used to be USB 3.0 ports as USB 3.1 in the summary/overview of the specs and excluding the Gen1 part in most marketing but have to put it in the actual specs. Kind of a crappy move, but that's how it is.
