Star Citizen: Minimum system requirements

• CPU: 4 core processor
• Memory: 8 GB of RAM
• Graphics card: Nvidia / AMD model with 2 GB VRAM

 

Caution: This information on the hardware utilization of Star Citizen is not yet an official statement. Currently, the information about the required hardware specs comes from an English translation of the Gamestar article. The complete technical report will only appear on Tuesday on the website of the magazine - behind a Paywall

Now 30 fps are really not an ideal measure, but Star Citizen is also far from a release ; Both the Alpha 3.0 and the finished game will be given by developer Butt Imperium Games allegedly still performance adjustments and fine-tuning before the launch. A similar thing happens with ARK: Survival Evolved where a Direct X 12 patch promises 20% more power before release .

The minimum specification requirements are bs... you can find parts that have the specs but won't even run the game.

 

Recommended 32GB RAM... well, that's a first.

Lmao that they recommended a 6 core. 7600k users and below peace out  R5 1600 and above users rejoice!

 

Also its largely irrelevant as by the time this game releases in 2030 none of this will be current tech and the requirements will have changed again.

The advantage of making all the money before launch is that you don't need to worry about who's going to be able to play it (and therefore buy it)

Yeah I always thought this game was a joke, never understood what made @Slick get so into it that he gave it a whole forum section for it, well at least we can joke about it so there's that.

Well, I don't know if it will deliver, but on paper it promised to check many items on a gamer's wish list (at least some gamers), dating back maybe even to pre-online gaming days. It's supposed to be space simulation, RPG, FPS, massive multiplayer... Also, people seems to trust the guy behind the project, so that adds to it as well.

Of course, the massive part may fail if hardware requirements are too steep. People who got early access seem divided between disappointment and optimism about what they see.

In any case, those of us not emotionally invested in the game can just watch it unfold any way it goes

Should be fixed, can you confirm? nothing has ever worked properly for me since they updated the forums to the new style

Still in Alpha, the game loves more cores, first game I've ever seen that loves 8 cores. I can play it well on my 4690k but i get frame spikes when a lot of action occurs, yet an i7 will be smooth as butter. Doesn't help that to help with bug finding they literally record everything that's happening in game so they can replicate the issue. Optimisation will come soon™ but judging on how good this game looks and will support VR in the future I can believe those spwcs.

because we had a main thread that got to big in pc gaming so Slick created a thread, there are regular meet ups in SC every week but most of us are now on Discord due to the forum lacking a chat site as well as other reasons.

Not really the same, No Mans Sky had a lack of info, yet SC has 4-5 youtube videos out a week, No Mans Sky was an unfinished rush job but SC has to be perfect for release.

 

Chris Roberts actually said that it has to be as good as an E3 release that Bethesda or Ubisoft shows but actually has everything in it that it shows.

 

I'm willing to wait since I have access to the game now and get to watch the game grow.

No still the same. FYI you can test yourself by scrolling all the way to the bottom of the page and changing to the dark theme (change back to whichever theme you prefer when done ofc.)

That's not a valid point. A high end 2012 machine won't run games buttery smooth on high - ultra forever. People will have to upgrade for other games anyway, so when SC is released, they'll be ready for it.

my current rig is essentially 2012. Apart from throwing $300 at the GPU last year it still plays everything I get at a reasonable (read 1080p) level.   I think SC is shaping up to be the first game in quite a while that will actually push me to hardware upgrades.  I remember back in the 90's early noughties it seemed every third game that came out required a new GPU or CPU feature.

The game is no joke. You can watch on YouTube every week exactly what they're doing. 

 

To me, needing a high-end rig to run it is not a deal breaker.... it's the point. Why else would we care about speccing out a great machine without great content to really flex it?

 

Let them take their time and do it right. There is nothing else like it.

This was what it was like in the 90's though.  you had to spend over $2500 on a machine that would last 2-3 years then the latest titles would start having issues.  When the age came that an $800 PC would last 5-6 years and still play latest titles adequately was a blessing.  Not sure why anyone would want to go back to needing to upgrade every two years.
