Ajit Pai doesn't want to release the FCC NN complaints

Mira Yurizaki

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2017/07/fcc-refuses-to-release-text-of-more-than-40000-net-neutrality-complaints/

Quote

The National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) filed a Freedom of Information Act (FoIA) request in May of this year for tens of thousands of net neutrality complaints that Internet users filed against their ISPs. The NHMC argues that the details of these complaints are crucial for analyzing FCC Chairman Ajit Pai's proposal to overturn net neutrality rules. The coalition also asked the FCC to extend the initial comment deadline until 60 days after the commission fully complies with the FoIA request. A deadline extension would have given people more time to file public comments on the plan to eliminate net neutrality rules.

Instead, the FCC yesterday denied the motion for an extension and said that it will only provide the text for a fraction of the complaints, because providing them all would be too burdensome. Pai has previously claimed that his proposed repeal of net neutrality rules is using a "far more transparent" process than the one used to implement net neutrality rules in 2015. Pai has also claimed that net neutrality rules were a response to "hypothetical harms and hysterical prophecies of doom" and that there was no real problem to solve.

You know, when you're trying to say repealing Net Neutrality is beneficial to everyone and yet you cockblock every action to get data and information that would imply it's really not, especially with asinine excuses as "it's too burdensome", you make yourself look even more suspicious. Also the excuse is not reasonable enough to deny a FoIA request.

I think even police departments dumped more data than the FCC complaints.

Since I've no idea how US law system works, is there any body of law that can force FCC to not be so crooked? I know they should be the the ones supervising the whole net neutrality thing, but who steps in action when your highest commision fails in every single way?

Congress if it wasn't under Republican control. The courts 10-15 years from now.

Point is the president has effectively told them to ignore these things and work towards a specific way, and that is allowed unless one of the other branches step in officially.

That's faster than our courts. They would solve it between never and not even then.

I mean in theory the courts could solve it tomorrow. They could also never solve it. But between those two, generally speaking they tend to address issues just when it's basically solved anyways (like national gay marriage).

Edit: Ignore the luser that doesn't RTFA

Could it be possible for someone to file a FOIA request? I don't know if the FCC falls under that.

Then again, they could just ignore it, like the government has done literally hundreds thousands of times before... Still, worth a shot. At least it would give the EFF and ACLU more ammo in the courts.

Not much point in having a FOIA if people are allowed to just ignore it.  What if people just started ignoring tax law on the same grounds, supplying the relevant receipts and accounts is too burdensome.

"We want you to file your own taxes using this convoluted paper that has 'clearly' written instructions because it's too much of a burden to do it ourselves"

(I read that in Japan, their tax agency does your taxes for you, sends you something like a W-2, and you only have to do something if you think there's a problem)

I can't see that flying in the US, Internal revenue would have to have automatic access to all your purchase history in order to ascertain rebate-able claims.  No one wants their privacy invaded to that degree. (even though they already do to a degree).

Of course he doesn't, he's already made up his mind on how this ruling is going to go.

It''ll be a 3-2 decision, with the three Republican members voting yes and the two Democratic members voting no.

This is ultimately the Dems fault for putting that vile woman against Trumpkins, dumping on their people's choice and handing over the White House key.

Russian finger pointing isn't going to get the FCC to be less shit.

No, this is the fault of the Republicans.  I am not conforming to either side, but this is the Republican leaders only caring about their wallets rather than the people.  If you look at their agenda you can see that.  Plus, wasn't it the Republicans who pushed a lot of Dem seats out of the government?  Oh, and neither side had a good option.  Bernie had some good ideas, but he had plenty of flaws too.

Flaws yes. But we're talking lesser of two evils, they practically gave the election away. I'm not a fan of either party, I'm just saying this could have been avoided to have some semblance of balance.

Don't worry he's giving all the data, however we haven't paid enough so he'll have it to give it us slower than he would have to himself! ;) you see he gave himself infinity money and us zero, so we should get everything in an infinite amount of time!

That's his proposition, seems probable that he'd do exactly that !

Your choices were Bernie, Hillary, and Trump.  I don't really feel like Hillary would have been that much better given how poorly she handled the Benghazi incident.  Bill is one thing, but his wife just isn't great in terms of politics.

A stump would be more qualified, head of FCC too haha
