Metric system

Would be lovely to see measurements in videos also in metric system.

Not speaking it out loud, small labels should be enough.

Totally agree

Isn't it weird that temps are using metric system but everything else is in imperial? I understand it with displays. But everything else....

Yes, Metric is the best system in the world. Odd ball SAE with only one country in the world using it.

You gotta learn how to convert it yourself in your head.

1" = 25.4mm

0.25 = 0.6mm

Because us Americans like our measurement system. LOL. Funny enough. When it comes to computer hardware temps I use metric, if I tried to use imperial I get confused, only applies though for PC hardware. Anything else Im back to Imperial.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Same, monitor sizes easier to get for me using inches haha

Machining with metrics may be a hell of a lot easier, metrics for computers is far more efficient than fractions. Counting in tens if far more easier than studying years of fractions. If the whole world used fractions, everything would make so much more sense in terms of Infrastructure, electronics, and education, because we'd all be reading and interpreting the same thing.

Fun fact imperial system is based on metric now a days.

How exactly? I know UK is moving away from imperial, but I haven't heard that system itself would have changed in any way.

While the metric system makes a lot more sense in a lot of ways, it also boils down to what most people are used to in reference to certain things.

2x4's are still called 2x4's even though they aren't even 2" x 4" (they are actually 1.5" x 3.5"). It's just easier to refer to them by what the majority calls it. If you go to a hardware store and ask for a 38.1 x 88.9 they will look at you like you have 2 heads. Likewise with monitor sizes etc.

There are ways to make accurate measurements  There is a literal physical item called 'The Standard Kilogram' (Which is not CURRENTLY based on a physical universal constant constant but they're working on it) that defines a kilogram or how one meter is defined as how far light can travel, in a vacuum, in 1/299 792 458 of a second and stuff like that. (This IS defined on a physical universal constant) This means that you can define the units of measurement based on a fix standard.  This doesn't exist for the imperial system, instead the current imperial system is based on fixed conversions from the metric system.

In short, nothing truely defines what a foot is.  A foot is just
0.3048 meters.  You need a defined meter to define a foot.

Having imperial system to use same standard bases that metric uses isn't same thing as imperial being based on metric system.

Is this the semanticist argument that you really want to have?

Actually It is, but it does not mean anything. The metric system changed its "bases" also, from a bar to a wave length (or some shit like that), but it didnt change anything really. What he is saying is that all the bases are relative to metric, so imperial is based on metric

Ultra is stupid. ALWAYS.

Just saying that @AshleyAshes could have worded fun fact bit more clear. I'm aware how measurements are being calibrated and what their history is.

Huh, don't watch the videos, but would of thought metric would be used.

I always measure in metric since most of the time on the other forum I visit.  People expect metric since the majority of computer parts are dealt in the metric system.

metric gets used a lot, i never really pay attention to what one they use, but i guess its mostly "the manufacturer told us the values in this system, so we use this system"

The unit it self is still the same but an inch is defined as so many centimeters and not as an inch is as long as this object. Same for pounds and such. Veritasium a guy on YouTube has a video on it but I'm on my phone so can't get it right now.

The thing is that most of case measurements, GPU sizes, RAM heights, fans, heatsinks and so on use metrics. I haven't followed if mobo's use metric or not. But for some reason I think OP is talking about weight since its the one thing I could think would make most sense to use imperial if you have choice. Maybe longer lengths too, like height of tables and chairs and so on.
