Do I need to wait for Next Gen Laptops?

currently I have a laptop with a gtx 1060. And it kills in 1080p ultra and video editing 4k. I would say it will last you a good 2-3 years with no problem.

I'm gonna replace my skylake GTX 9 series laptop. I can feel it outdated right now. I heard that Nvidia is gonna release their next gen graphics cards for gaming (GTX 20 series) in this winter. My conclusion is, do I need to wait for them to come out or just go for GTX 1060 or 1070 laptop to use next couple of years? My main concern is Video Editing in 1080p and gaming in 1080p with good FPS in ultra or high settings. My current laptop is killing video editing in 1080p without any compromise. It can handle the latest gaming titles in medium settings with great FPS. In high settings FPS lil low. I guess GTX 1060 or 1070 will fulfill my concerns. If I go for a new laptop I'm gonna need to keep it for next 2 or 2 and half years. When Nvidia's new chips come out they might be too pricey and will take some time to come out to the Asian market. 

 

My choice is to go for 1060 or 1070. But the same time I think I might regret not to wait for new cards. Does anybody have this problem? Then how you could manage it?

buy now.

Volta isn't coming this year most likely. maybe early 2018. even so, mobile pascal took a lot longer to get here than desktop pascal, so I'd expect mobile volta to arrive Q2 2018, or maybe Q1 if we're lucky. that's a hell of a long wait, so buy now.

What is your laptop specs. I mean memory, storage, cooling system & screen. I have my eye on Predator Helios 300. There is a good deal in Amazon with Seagate firecuda 2TB HDD.

and how well 1060 or 1070 will react to the upcoming game titles?

Mobile Pascal was a huge jump in the right direction. Q max is the next step but there aren't that many options. Personally I can't stand heavy and thick laptops

The next step backwards perhaps, Max-Q is extremely overpriced for what it is and easily beaten with regular N chips (e.g. a 1070N is as good as a 1080MQ).

I have a MSI GS63VR. It has a i7 6700HQ, 512 GB SATA SSD. GTX 1060. 16 GB ram. The screen is actually pretty decent. (I hated it at first but the MSI True color adjust the screen pretty well.) The cooling is pretty quiet when watching videos and basic editing but can get loud* It doesn't get loud but its just the higher than normal pitch that makes it sound louder than it is. I've been told it sounds like a jet engine. (Not the loudness per say but the pitch) It does a fantastic job at cooling though. I like the keyboard and find it very nice to type on. I kinda feel like I can type faster on this keyboard than on my razer blackwidow chroma. But thats just personal preference. The laptop is very thin as thin as the Razer Blade. It is also very light* (for the specs and cooling performance) It weighs in at 4.01 pounds. Or 1.9 KG. The power (cinder) Block is quite large and heavy. at 1.2 lbs. The battery life is mediocre, at 65 watt hours it can last 6 ish hours when just browsing the web. 5 ish hours when watching videos or movies. and 2.5 hours when playing games. Also I used this for video editing while in school. (Though other students how to do basic Adobe AE) It lasted me a day of class about 4-5 hours with 15-20% left over. While turning off all wifi and having airplane mode on. I believe this laptop lasted me 7 or 8 hours. So would not recommend if you are buying this for college.

Max Q isn't actually scam. But there's a lot of controversy about this concept. I'm standing on Nvidia side. It's not for everybody.

actually max-q is luxury as in you pay more to have the same performance in a thinner chassis.

 

Go with the best you can afford right now, i expect the next similar laptop to be another 2 years so if you need one now get one. If you think you can wait up to 2 years than wait.
