Yes, that's the only way to make a botable DVD. I think you can also use a USB installer, but I've never messed with that since a DVD is so much easier for me.

How do I install FreeNAS 11 on to a USB Stick?

CPU: i9-9900k
Motherboard: MSI Carbon Pro AC
Memory: GSkill Trident Z Royal Silver 32gb
Storage: SanDisk - Ultra II 480GB 2.5" Solid State Drive

Storage: Western Digital - Blue 4TB 3.5" 5400RPM Hard Drive
Video Card: ASUS Strix GTX 1050ti 4GB
Case: Corsair - Vengeance C70 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case

Download the ISO image, put it onto a DVD, and boot from it. Choose your USB drive as the installation destination.

Why such a powerful system, and what's the deal with such a video card?

That's right. Do you already have all that hardware? Because that's quite overkill for a home NAS.

Main System: Phobos

AMD Ryzen 7 2700 (8C/16T), ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 16GB G.SKILL Aegis DDR4 3000MHz, AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB (XFX), 960GB Crucial M500, 2TB Seagate BarraCuda, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations/macOS Catalina

Hmm. That's serious overkill for a home NAS unit. Mine runs on a Core 2 Duo with full gigabit speeds.

Main System: Phobos

AMD Ryzen 7 2700 (8C/16T), ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 16GB G.SKILL Aegis DDR4 3000MHz, AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB (XFX), 960GB Crucial M500, 2TB Seagate BarraCuda, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations/macOS Catalina
