GTX 1080 TI - Temp limit issue

zzz123

Hi. My card is Gtx 1080 Ti reference, no oc. Today after quitting fire strike ( i quit after 10 second test ) i get weird single flicker on desktop, like here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GupyvzrhwZI

It happened just once, but i want to be sure that card is ok. I tried to reproduce but i cant.

I am using new nvidia driver. Monitor is GB2488HSU 144HZ IIyama. Thanks

You are probably fine. If it doesn't happen again, don't worry about it.

Better dead than Red.

  • 2 months later...

Hello. I run looped 3dmark 11 and i saw that clocks are dropping below advertised boost clock Boost Clock, 1582 MHz. Dropping to 1506- 1540- 1560mhz under load with 84C. I am using auto fan and stock settings. Can i rma because of this? I was thinking that clock always should be above Boost Clock, 1582 MHz. Card is 1080 Ti Fe.

What's your temp target set at? You're likely thermal throttling. Give it some better airflow.

Having issues with a Corsair AIO? Possible fix here:

Spoiler

Are you getting weird fan behavior, speed fluctuations, and/or other issues with Link?

Are you running AIDA64, HWinfo, CAM, or HWmonitor? (ASUS suite & other monitoring software often have the same issue.)

Corsair Link has problems with some monitoring software so you may have to change some settings to get them to work smoothly.

-For AIDA64: First make sure you have the newest update installed, then, go to Preferences>Stability and make sure the "Corsair Link sensor support" box is checked and make sure the "Asetek LC sensor support" box is UNchecked.

-For HWinfo: manually disable all monitoring of the AIO sensors/components.

-For others: Disable any monitoring of Corsair AIO sensors.

That should fix the fan issue for some Corsair AIOs (H80i GT/v2, H110i GTX/H115i, H100i GTX and others made by Asetek). The problem is bad coding in Link that fights for AIO control with other programs. You can test if this worked by setting the fan speed in Link to 100%, if it doesn't fluctuate you are set and can change the curve to whatever. If that doesn't work or you're still having other issues then you probably still have a monitoring software interfering with the AIO/Link communications, find what it is and disable it.

no like seriously only base clock is guarantied. plus on a reference card the fan curve is not aggressive enough so the temp easily hit the default 83 limit and then the clock drops to compensate instead of ramping the fan further. just up the temperature limit and make the fan curve more aggressive at higher temps. your problem will be gone.

Also i am getting that drop to 1500-1590mhz only in 3dmark . In games i have 1650-1800mhz, so airflow i think its ok.

Did you really post this here 3 hours later and expecting a different answer?

https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/1015875/geforce-1000-series/1080-ti-fe-dropping-below-advertised-boost-clock-/

The card is getting so hot that it is throttling itself. It does it in steps until it hits the base clock. You could overclock it and when it hits 84 it will drop below the new boost clock just like it does now. Not much but a little. The FE is a horrible cooler for a card with this high of thermal output and is really only good for guaranteed water blocks or cases where non blower style would not work.

OMG fan speed itself raised up to 60%. I dont change anything. Yesterday fan speed was 49%. Today i see its 60%. But i dont change anything. Driver thing? No installed programs like afterburner, precision.

it could be a driver thing and dont be so impatient, i wait sometimes a day before i get a reaction so no need for a bump

So your fan speed has changed and temps are no longer holding your GPU back. You've answered your own question.

Why the fan speed has changed? Who knows, but it sounds like you've installed all sorts of monitoring and benchmarking software that can control the fan speed so that's really not surprising at all.

And please don't bump topics after a few minutes.

Does you mum know you're here?

Hi. Fast question.

Ok i just catched a screenshot,so last time:) Sorry if i bothering.

ook i made today a test fire strike and look on fan speed , it shouldnt be 59-60% on load on stock: It was 59% fan speed instead of 49% like always ,look:

image.jpg

Using 3dmark.

59% today. Yesterday was 49%.All is stock, default. No installed utilities. No Ai Suite,Afterburner,Precision etc. All stock ,default curve. Any ideas?

Somebody said that maybe bad fan controller?

The fan speed on the FE cards (from personal experience) are always in the 50-70% range. It's nothing to worry about, but if you want to lower the speed, use Afterburner or a similar overclocking suite

I say jiggly-bytes when I see "GB".

It goes down better than you would expect.

Possibly.... usually when I've seen bad fan controllers the fan just goes from 0 to 100 back and forth unless you set it to 100% then it just stays there.  To test it further though, you actually should try to set the curve yourself, if it doesn't listen to your instructions...something is wrong. Assuming everything is setup properly.
