I believe you, the i7's from almost ANY generation still kicks a surprising amount of ass.

This is true. I expect Ryzen hex and octocore chips to do the same.

I gave my friend my old Evga x79 sli board with a sandybridge (I think it was probaly a 3930k) and 8gb RAM (I think - it might have been 16gb but I can't imagine I bothered about 16gb back then) and my old 670 a month ago for free. No point in it just laying around my house unused and it is a nice enough upgrade from the Q6600 he was using (also mine... lol).

Oh, the second hand market is utter crap.

Yep. Most people can't afford buying new gear or aren't informed. This is still a developing country in my books (I live in Romania) and we've still got a helluva way to go in therms of economy.

I've seen P4 systems go for $100. A PENTIUM 4 SYSTEM!

We have a Craigslist-style website that I constantly lurk around on hunting and I usually score cool shit (Like my Engineering Sample SS4200 w/ 2x500 gig drives for $60). Hoping to find a decent GPU but the market is pretty dry right now thanks to everyone opting to get a cheaper old card while they wait for miners to stop hogging RX and 1060 cards

Not THAT old.

An E4700 system is $40-60. The CPU itself is like $10

The $100 P4 was just an example of how retarded prices can get

I meant people are buying older components but not THAT old. 775 is deader than a dodo. Only reason to even run a 775 system is for something like an arcade cabinet or a retro box. Which gives me an idea.

Brb, need to dig out some old crap and see if I can make myself a Win 95-2000 box out of a Q6600 system (IF I can get the mobo working again)

I need to send out an order for new caps and I think I need to replace a VRM first.

That means moving first, so might have to do it sometime next month or just before winter hits.

I suspect I'm missing an Intel heatsink though (Might have to ghetto mod an AMD one on, since I think I just threw out the ratshit infested box of heatsinks)

Waddup forums!

So I'm having a good time. People around me know that I'm good at building PC's and picking parts to whatever they'll use them for, so I have some "business" going on there.

There's this one guy, Robin, he's got a boner for mITX and he loooves just buying hardware. More harware than he can use, honestly.

Yesterday I was at his place, building his 4th (5th coming next week) mITX PC becuase "Nah the 1060 isn't good enough as a secondary PC GPU y'know, so I bought an entire new system".

So I sigh loudly, ask him in a friendly way if it's really necessary, he sort of agrees that it's not but you know how some bonheads can be!

Anyhow; I finish it up, install windows so all he has left is the drivers. Our deal is that he pays me per PC, one build is around 40$ (some may argue that this is too expensive, meet me in comments)

But this time he proposed another deal, a deal which meant that I'd get some of his parts that, right now, is doing nothing but collect dust.

I was intrigued and said "Sure why the hell not, whatcha got?" Since I LOVE just having parts to build and play around with.

He gives me an Asus Z97 Pro Gamer 1150 MOBO, 8GB RAM DDR3 LP Crucial with a VS 550w PSU mounted in a Fractal Design R5 Black Pearl with a windowed panel.

So I'm standing there like "What the fuck is going on here", and ask him if he's entirely sure. I told him that this is worth WAY more than the cash I usually get for helping him, and getting payed is something he insists on doing (I suggested to begin with to do it for free, but as mentioned he's quite stubborn). He says something like "Yeah I really don't mind, I don't have any LGA 1150 CPU's laying around and I was planning on selling it but I dont have any boxes so it's just collecting dust now. If you want it - take it."

.. So I did.

Let me tell you;
The R5 is in MINT condition, he won the parts in a competition (was a complete PC) and stripped it to upgrade his former rig. IT WAS NEVER USED. The plastic is still on the window!!! My plan for the longest time has been to build a PC for my girlfriend when she moves into her apartment (that happens to be today, July 14) and I have! I made it from parts I got second hand, and the CPU just so happens to be a G3258, perfectly fitting the MOBO until she upgrades.

Here's the list of her PC (Bold will be upgraded):
CPU: G3258, clocked at 4.7Ghz

CPU Cooler: Noctua NH D14

Mobo: Asus Z97 Pro Gamer

GPU: GTX 660 ti

PSU: Corsair VS 550w

SSD: Samsung 850 Evo 250GB (OS)

HDD: 3TB WD Blue

Case: Fractal Design R5 Black Pearl Windowed

RAM: Corsair LPX 2x4GB Black (getting 2 more)

And man.. I'm just a happy lil' nerd right now.

Everything fired up fine, windows runs smooth as balls.

(Also miiight have bought her the Masterkeys Lite RGB Combo)

Thanks if you stuck with me throught the post!

What do you think of the build?

EDIT:
I want to clarify that Robin is THE MAN, he might be stubborn and boneheaded but man he is the nicest guy.
In case someone misunderstood

Wow,amazing deal,by the way, what did you pay for the G3258? And the combo of the barebones (sorta) and the G3258,if under $100,I will be stunned, since Z97 is still a solid platform, but the GTX 660 TI should be replaced since it's old and the G3258 can handle a much better GPU than a 660TI,Get a 750TI/GT 1030 or maybe 1050/TI (if you don't plan to upgrade the CPU later...)

and lol

The $100 P4 was just an example of how retarded prices can get

a P4 system for gaming is worth trash, fine for basic web, etc, but holy balls that's overpricing even for highest pricing.Sort of same in India, its like $2.5 (150 INR,sorry my laptop uses US keyboard xD ) for a P4 521 (And ffs these used AND new market prices are sh*t here, like literaly ... oh wait,it's improved, from around $450 (converted) to around $400,nice,but still some mentally retarded people put a Dell LGA 775 motherboard for $100,and like almost $300 for a Celeron 420 blaze it combo, like wtf) means used prices are fine, but compare it to US prices and INR is literaly Dust! a Q6600 goes for $50 on ebay, wtf.

E4700 worth like $1,since the E8600 is going for $10
