GTX 1080 or wait for a 1070?

Right now it is on "sale", i have an i5 6600k, and a 1080p 144hz monitor, i know a GTX 1080 is overkill for 1080p, but i don't know how many months i'll have to wait for a 1070.

I am/was planning to buy the MSI gtx 1070 Gaming X since it fits the aesthetics of my pc, but i can't find it anywhere, and if someone's selling it, it cost like $600.

So should i get the 1080?

Yes! It'll last for years on AAA games if you only play 1080p, and leave you room to upgrade to 1440 or 4K if you turn down some settings.

If you can afford it at $499, the 1080 is a great card.

The 1070 will likely some time go back down to $379, but no way of knowing when that will be. So if you don't want to / can't wait a couple of weeks / monts.... get the 1080.

The 1080 is worth the extra money over the 1070. 30% more expensive but also 30% faster..

Yes, the 1080 is a better deal right now because the 1060 and 1070 are in high demand for ethereum mining. The 1080 is not in demand so the price is closer to what it should be for general PC gaming.

The 70's usually are the bang for your bucks segment, but ever since the mining craze, 1080 is the new bang for your bucks segment, if you can get a good deal over it, I would definitely recommend it.

Alright, thanks! i hope it's still in stock tomorrow.

Also, how good is the Windforce compared to the MSI Gaming X? i've heard a lot of bad things about Gigabyte, i don't know if it's only the customer support or the product itself.

My previous 2 GPUs are Gigabyte, they both worked fine and got decent OC, maybe I was lucky and I have never contacted the CS, so I have no idea how they are.
I was very close of getting an MSI 1080 ti, but at the end I went for EVGA instead.

Sh*t I've wanted to order it now and it went to $624 damn it!!!

Well there's the EVGA 1080 ftw at $569, I don't know if that's still a good price.

Also there's the EVGA 1070 SC which finally is at stock now, but I'll lose the future proof of the 1080
