Multiple Folders Showing on my OMV File Server

I was able to get to my folders on my OMV file server (I was having a 24 hours brain fart).  I saw multiple folders that I did not create on OMV. Where did they come from and how can I get rid of them?

 

The ones I created were Backups and TimeMachine fyi.

Is anyone else on your server?

Im mostly on discord now and you can find me on my profile

 

My Build: Xeon 2630L V, RX 560 2gb, 8gb ddr4 1866, EVGA 450BV

No. Only User is me both added (in web gui) and uploading data.

"Homes" and one of your username, in this case "Robert" I'd guess, are automatically created by Samba and really can't be removed.  I think you might be able to hide them in the part of the UI where you manage shares, but I can't check my OMV server right now.

 

"Robert" will be your home directory when you log in to the omv server via ssh with that username, "Homes" will be the parent of that directory.

Ah, that makes sense. I just wish they wouldn't do that. I am a clutter freak with my pc, I like things very organized. After working on people's computers and not being able to find things, I am weird about it now.

Do you use a Mac?  DS Store file are usually created by Mac's when you write to a non-mac filesystem, their used to store additional metadata that the Mac uses that can't be stored as part of then filesystem.

My main machine is Windows. I have tried to get onto the file server via my macbook air (Mostly used for school) but with no luck. That is why you see the "TimeMachine" folder in the picture, but it can't be used since I can't even get into the network drive my file server provides.

You said you had found it while moving files from the Synology device to the OMV server, I assumed that meant that the DS Store was on the Synology device?  If so and you've accessed that device from the Mac, that's why the files are there.  If you found them on the new OMV server and havn't accessed it from the Mac, I've no idea how they got there.

No, the macbook has never been backed up. Never could get it to connect with the synology either.

I am clueless, thank you though.
