6-Pin Motherboard

I'm looking to build a cheap gaming PC for my little brother. I found a refurbished HP Prodesk 600 G1 sff on NewEgg that features an i5-4590, 8gb ddr3, 500gb hdd and a Windows 10 pro licence all for $340 CDN. Next, I want to add a GTX 1050, which would obviously require an upgrade from the included 240w power supply. My trouble comes because the motherboard takes a 6 pin power cable, rather than the standard 24-pin. Could I just use an adapter, or should I just get a cheap LGA 1150 mobo.

Yeah with proprietary connectors you're pretty much out of luck without getting a new board. Though, as much as I don't really like it, the 1050 might still work with that power supply. I would still try to get a new PSU/mobo though, but it might work until you can get those ordered.

Other: Added 3x Noctua NF-F12 intake, 2x Noctua NF-A8 exhaust, Inatek 5 port USB 3.0 expansion card with usb 3.0 front panel header

Details: 12GB ram, GTX 1080, USB card passed through to windows 10 VM. VM's OS drive is the SATA SSD. Rest of resources are for Plex, Duplicati, Spaghettidetective, Nextcloud, and game servers.

ugh, dell and their weird mobo shenanigans :P

 i don't think there are adapters for this on the market, but do you really need a better PSU? i think the 1050 only draws 75 Watts. does the 4590 and the rest really use up the rest?

You could power the gpu with a seperate psu.

or find the same psu model but higher wattage on ebay, they did come with optional psu's

finally you could just try to hack the wiring, its been done online

 

I am in the same situation with my HP SFF

easiest solution, get a seperate psu for the GPU if using 1060+

SFF has additional real estate issues with full size card

 

6 pins on the mobo is really easy to hack into
