Ryzen vs Intel?

Hi everyone,

I would like to hear your opinion. 
I am planning on building a new system for a friend but we are not sure to Ryzen or Intel for CPU.

What is better for pure gaming and is future proof?

 

Ryzen 5 1600 vs intel core I5-7600K

Ryzen 7 1700 vs intel core i7-7700K

R5 is better than i5, 7700k is better than R7. 

Please quote our replys so we get a notification and can reply easily. Never cheap out on a PSU, or I will come to watch the fireworks.

R5 1600 wins i5 7600k because high clock speed doesn't beat 2 extra cores and SMT (hyperthreading).

7700k beats R7 1700 because games hardly use 8 cores and clock speed is low.

But will games in the future use more cores/threads?

R5>i5, yeah I agree on that.

R7 > i7 7700k is harder though, that kinda depends on usage. For purely gaming? Then yes 7700k.

Most likely, but we're not going to see happen anytime soon. If game developers decide to do so, most people with still have their old CPUs such as i5's and people with lower end PCs will also struggle. It's already happened with GTA 5. It's requires a minimum of 4 cores, that's why you see some older gen i5 and also the "newer" Pentium dual cores struggled against their newer versions.

It does look like this is the trend. How fast this is moving though is a different question. I'd go with 1600 and put the extra money into the graphics instead

Good luck with that. 1070's are the highest tier GPU using GDDR5. 1080 and upwards use GDDR5X which doesn't perform as well as GDDR5 when mining. Hence why you can't get a reasonably priced 1060 or 1070 and how I sold my 1070 for more than it cost new.

 

EDIT: Price gap for a 1080Ti and 1070 right now in the UK is £150 lmao. Thanks for the upgrade miners

that would depends on the game OP uses. i can 100% tell you a game like csgo a 7700k with 1070 would perform better.

also resolution is a big factor.

The answer is quite obviously either of the Ryzen's because the OP asked about future proofing. In 5-7 years he could drop in the latest AM4 chip and be good for another 5 years with only the GPU needing to be upgraded.
