Cryorig h7 not performing well?

CasualGamer...

I just received my am4 upgrade kit today so I installed my h7 on my ryzen 1600. I installed a sp120 performance edition on the h7 for mainly looks. The cpu is at 3.8ghz at 1.35v. The temperatures are way different from what I thought they would be, running aida 64 76c is my highest temperature. I feel barely any air coming out of the back of the heatsink while the fan is spinning well above 50%. I have tightened the screws as much as possible too, and thermal compound is arctic mx-4 and plenty of it. Is this the kind of performance I can expect or is there an issue?

Well for one, check your fan curve so that it runs closer to 100% at those temperatures if you think that is too warm.

The fan curve doesn't work for me, it just stays at low rpm regardless of the temperature. On the latest bios too :( I might try the fan that came with the h7, maybe its a fan issue?

those temps are pretty okay, you can go higher.

the air shouldn't be really hot coming off a heatsink. it totally makes sense for it to only be slightly warmer, or not noticeably warmer at all.

if you want, you can try remount the cooler, but it doesn't seem like there's an obvious issue here.

I guess just check the connection to the pins on the motherboard. But as @RadiatingLight said, the temps aren't anything to worry about. What do the temps reach while gaming? (Rather than benchmarking)

Also, what about idle?

Ok, I must have high expectations lol

Idle temps are in the 30's, seems good right? The connection is fine, but I will try the stock fan and see if there is a difference.

Make sure to clean and reapply thermal paste every time you unmount the cpu.

Ok, I might remount the cpu just to see if my thermal paste application was bad, thanks.

Ok, I just took the cooler off and realized all the thermal compound has spread off away from the center of the cpu. I took the h7 and put it on a flat surface, and it doesn't sit right, it wobbles around and seems like the part that touches the cpu is bulging out in the center. Is this a defect or machining imperfection? It seems like it should be completely flat.

My temps were strange, so I took it off. I will try to install it again and see if the issue persists, but my thermal compound application was near perfect the first time, so I don't know.

I know some waterblocks in the past were convex to conform to intel's less than flat IHS, not sure if thats still an issue

The heat spreader on my cpu seems very flat. If this is intentional by cryorig, than I guess there is nothing I can do.

Doesn't Cryorig use one of the straight bar systems to hold down their coolers on AM4?

With intel boards it has 4 secure mounting points, I don't know if it's the same for AMD because their mounting holes are not evenly spaced all the way around.

Intel Xeon 1650 V0 (4.4GHz @1.4V), ASRock X79 Extreme6, 32GB of HyperX 1866, Sapphire Nitro+ 5700XT, Silverstone Redline (black) RL05BB-W, Crucial MX500 500GB SSD, TeamGroup GX2 512GB SSD, WD AV-25 1TB 2.5" HDD with generic Chinese 120GB SSD as cache, x2 Seagate 2TB SSHD(RAID 0) with generic Chinese 240GB SSD as cache, SeaSonic Focus Plus Gold 850, x2 Acer H236HL, Acer V277U be quiet! The only thing that is different is the mounting bracket for the h7 upgrade kit, which means it is installed using the same clips or bars or whatever they are called. This made installation difficult for me, as there was no locking point for am4.

Sorry for asking stupid question, but does that mean you aren't using AM4 mounting kit? That could be issue. Or if coolers base really isn't smooth and even, take a pic and contact Cryorig support. It could be manufacturing error and reason for RMA.

I am using the am4 kit, the kit is just a backplate, nothing else. I just found out that the cold plate is convex by design, and ryzen cpu's ihs seems very flat

edit: I re-installed the cooler with cryorig's thermal paste and temperatures are good, apparently mx-4 doesn't like the convex coldplate of the cooler.
