Budget Cable Sleeving

Hello there.

Since the ethereum craze means that my PC can't shine in terms of performance (no GPUs), I decided to go down the aesthetics path. I have bought a nice, new case with a massive acrylic window (scared of tempered glass shattering into millions of pieces) which I am very happy with. But it has a caveat: It exposes the ugly cables of my cheap PSU. Having done a solid amount of research I still haven't found a budget friendly way to hide my "ketchup and mustard" power cables under some sleeving. I have looked into prefabricated kits (they seem to only be compatible with expensive *af* PSUs) and also into doing it myself (I don't really know how that works and it seems to be rather pricey as well)

Is there any sort of trick that I am missing? Is there a way to get a decent PSU with sleeved cables under a 100€? I don't have much more money to spend, because I am still a student.

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

J

Is the PSU modular? If not, then I wouldn't really bother, it's a massive pain to the point of not being worth it. Even sleeving a modular PSU takes a long time and is tedious.

AFAIK, no PSUs come with sleeved cables. I believe there have been a few PSUs that did, but I'm not aware of any that are available today and the ones that did have them were all kind of crappy (in terms of sleeving quality).

As your case has a PSU cover already, all you really need to cover up is the component end of the cables. For that, you can buy extension cables from the likes of Bitfenix for a decent look at relatively low cost. CableMod also has extension kits available, but they can be a bit pricey.

Thank you for your reply Oshino! When I looked at cable mods offering the extension appeared to use proprietary connectors for the peripheral cables that were specific for a certain modular PSU model. I will give Bitfenix a try though.

Thank you very much

Oh okay. I just wanted a PSU cover to present my SSD. Glad that it serves more than one purpose.

The component end of cables are all standard, it's not possible to tailor extensions for a specific PSU as they all terminate in the same connector layout (unless it uses proprietary or non-standard connectors, but CableMod doesn't have any of those) They do have sets of cables for specific PSUs, but those aren't extension cables. Extensions are pinned 1 to 1 (no cross overs) male to female, so they "extend" the connector from the component end.

Extensions plug on to the end of your current cables.

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

I want to cheap out. I decided to buy some electrical tape and cover my cables in it rather than using proper braided sleeves. I will document how it goes if anyone is interested. Sleeving my entire setup will cost no more than 10 bucks and should be fairly easily done due to the nature of the tape.

*EDIT*

If it doesn't work, then it's not a big deal, because I can still add extensions after that and the investment in electrical tape was reasonably small.
