Packard Bell IXtreme 4012 Rebuild/Refresh

ObilvionNizer

Hey everyone,

As the title suggests I will be rebuilding an old Packard Bell IXtreme desktop. This PC has been in my Attic for some 15 years.

As you can see from the pictures its not in the best condition. Its yellow missing a drive bay cover and has a broken drive bay (no spring), I have been trying to source parts for it for the past few weeks but to no avail. If i am unable to find suitable parts for it, I will perform a mod on the case. I have also purchased new a new power switch and LEDs for the HDD and Power, I will only be using the HDD LED. Also bought new Female USBs  for the front panel.

I will be repainting the the case black and silver. I will be buying the paint materials today so will update with a picture of the materials when i get back. I will also provide specs of the hardware at a later time With Pictures.

I will be installing the HDD, SSD and optical drive (need to find - seem to have misplaced) at some point this week. I have 3 days off work so 2 off the days can allow for me to install the 3 parts. The others will be installed when the power switches and USBs come.

Short update after a while.

So i managed to get new USBs for the front panel. The new power button and LEDs came. I have decided to replace the optical bay covers with acrylic. I am sanding the acrylic with 600 to 1200 grit wet and dry paper. I have sanded the front bezel ready for me to adhere the acrylic to. Once the glue cures i will further sand the front Panel to ready for paint.

I am using painters tap to hold the section in place for the mean time. I intend on Soldering it to the metal sheet. Just waiting to get the soldering Iron from a colleague at work.

I will be getting the lacquer sometime within the next few days.

So...

Soldering didnt work....Welding would of been better but it would cost too much to high a small welder and I don't know anyone who owns one I could of borrowed.

So since that didn't I decided i would use Gorilla Glue to stick the Grill to the sheet Metal. It worked but i am not happy with it.
